Can anyone explain to me why it gets so much praise? Like it's okay but it always struck me as pretty average at best. Is there something I missed besides the characters barely containing their ennui and the show jerking itself off over how fakedeep it is?

The characters are bland and it spends the entire series pretending it's saying way more than it is.
Sure the ost is great and it usually does a good job of creating an emotional atmosphere but I constantly see it called a masterpiece when its just episodic bullshit for most of the show leading up to a very predictable bullshit end
