I thought of checking the KanzakaDex forum for updates about the upcoming light novels but much to my shock the forum is completely dead so I guess these threads are the best place for discussion.
I, and a couple others, will be here for your every Slayers need, to the best of my ability. The moment the news comes out on oricon, I know I will try blast Yea Forums repeatedly until a thread sticks so everyone can be in the loop for once Volume 17 releases.
The most-important thing at the moment is getting Reb interested in Slayers again and enlisting her much-needed service.
She and Zelgadis better not try and be important in Slayers 3, it did NOT work out well for Luke and Milina

I believe the canon intelligence ratings are Gourry -> Lina -> Amelia -> Zel, but with Gourry being an idiot-savant who can't remember names, faces, or places, but can easily perceive things in the middle of combat, be aware of his surroundings within a 30-yard radius at all times, and immediately knew that Xellos was a Mazoku while it took everyone else numerous conversations to pick up on it.
Quite sure the tv series amped up Gourry's stupidity a whole bunch whereas in the novel he offers useful insight and occasional snark
This is correct. Gourry was introduced in the novels as a means of giving Lina a way to explain the world's lore, but she could follow-up her statements with internal dialogue. Since a monologue like that wouldn't work within the medium, Gourry devolved into the character he is now within the anime. However, you can see that the writers who worked on it started taking extra care later on to not let him be stuck permanently as that caricature.
