OP came out at the perfect time, especially the anime. DBZ was over and anime started to become popular/mainstream outside of Japan.
And now people are so invested in it, why would they stop after already reading/watching 500 chapters/episodes?

That's the thing though, every author loves their own work, but how come Oda manages to keep up expectations this long without his manga turning into shit?
Most long-running mangaka fall into a trap where things get more and more shit over time, yet Oda's quality never really dropped over the years while every other mangaka's has.
