Shirou's magic circuits are actually pretty decent, he just had no experience using them the correct way until the 5th war. Shinji is genetic trash that no amount of effort could help.

Erase your memory and read the VN. The DEEN anime is a travesty of a cash-grab that abridges everything, ignores all the most vital points of the narrative, fucks up characterization, and awkwardly tries to combine all the routes into one. If you absolutely must experience the Fate route, read at least that in the original format and stick to the anime for the other two if you haven't the attention span to get through them.

Something the masses still don't understand because of retarded production decisions is that the three routes aren't separate stories. They're meant to be read in a linear order, and each successive one assumes the reader already knows key details from the previous. You've already slightly lost part of the ideal experience by seeing UBW before Fate.

You can watch it for meme and academic historical purposes. Just sit back and laugh at the goofy animation and pretend it's 2006 again, a simpler time when GARcher was the shit.

Oh, then I'll just be skipping that shit and be happy with what I saw. UBW was a nice standalone experience for me after Zero laid out the groundwork, and I'm not about to read VN's. The first of the three movies was pretty good though, I'll be using those as supplement.

Fate/stay DEEN had its moments. There's a reason why it was able to launch much of the western TM fandom in the first place.

FSN Deen was my entry to Fate back in 08 so it's crazy to see how badly it aged. At time time it was a pretty nice experience and its ost was top tier, the best out of all Fate works imo but yeah I wouldn't recommend it to anyone nowadays after experiencing the ufotable adaptations. I really hope it gets reworked after the HF trilogy.

That's fair. UFOtable really picked up DEEN's slack as best they could to be honest. Most of the important shit from Fate necessary for UBW involved already knowing Kotomine was evil, some technical details about the war and Avalon, and Saber's character arc. Zero covers all of these things, so it's at least a decent substitute as a primer to UBW, and UFOtable made a point to reference Zero more explicitly than the VN did (because, of course, Zero released AFTER the VN) to make up for the information void. It's not a perfect replacement, but it works well enough.

You only need to know the "problem" half of her arc to understand how well UBW's "conclusion" works. Yes, it's an entirely separate experience from Fate's conclusion though.
