Is the source material also as terrible as the anime has been so far or is this shitshow just a problem with the studio sucking at writing?

First four episodes were good but it had nowhere to go from there. They show could've ended with episode 4, and the fact that it didn't is what makes it bad. I've never seen a show instantaneously pivot from good to bad.
