I understand it was a convenient encounter since it helped Boogie kill Manticore and it ties with the whole courage of humanity theme of &Others, but their first encounter always weirded me out. And now with the KoD reveal, I feel like there's something big and it's all tied together.

Manticore was a clone of Echoes and pretty tough. The anime didn't really convey this - she cut through Manticore's arm because it had been hit by Echoes' beam and was weakened.

Boogie is pretty much immune too any sort mind fuck and such. For example, Fear Ghoul could see the weakness (fear) in poeple's hearts but she couldn't' see shit in Boogie. Jin also couldn't see any flower inside Boogie.

Yes, it's weird that only volume 3 was the exception to this rule. I had my doubts at first that maybe the girl in the cover wasn't really Imaginator until the reprint versions came along which had Imaginator as the cover for both 2 and 3.
