I just finished Season 1 yesterday. Thunderbolt Fantasy is some amazing stuff. The craftsmanship and attention to detail on those puppets was absolutely unbelievable. Everything was supremely nuanced and rich even in dialogue-heavy scenes, and then these puppets proceeded to do genuine sword fights with actual combat styles and flips. They even had legs. It's been a long time since I saw something that I felt genuinely had all the staff's heart and soul poured into it like that. The story was also 200% Wuxia trickery and martial arts. The Enigmatic Gale's clusterfuck of a "party" was always intriguing and Sho made for a great jaded straight man with a heart of gold. I really appreciated how important baiting out people's mental states and true motivations was to confronting them and realizing their character flaws as well. Everyone's life credos and core selves lay in those moments and by the end you really understood why Rin fixated on them for his thievery.

Puppetry and character interactions are as good in s2 as they were in S1, but the overall scale of the plot is smaller. Still good though, I enjoyed how the antagonists knew that they were no match for Shou in a straight fight

One of the crucial parts of the show is when they assumed he was nothing after he was captured. In their villainous ego they were hasty to dismiss him and try to validate their own petty selves. The mystery of his swordsmanship ultimately came back to bite them in the ass. Well, mainly Kei Gai since she was the only one possibly still alive at that point, if she was fused with the demon god or standing on its shoulder somewhere.
