Nah, man, ducks may be free and all but there are serious drawbacks. They can get sick and die sooner, they have to watch out for predators, and their average lifespan is around 10 years. Also I doubt Fakir would find it easy to get used to being a duck, while Ahiru is perfect in her human form.

Probably. It ends with him writing his new story next to Ahiru, I think that's why they gave him those asspull powers in the first place.
The whole point of their final conversation was that she was in desperation about loosing her human form, and he comforted her saying he won't abandon her if that happens. Seems like a fair implication.
But I think it has a lot to do with the genre it imitates (tragedy), by ending it the way they did you get both the feeling of tragedy and sacrifice and an implied happy ending all in one, thus corresponding with the tone of the show. If they just ended it showing him transform her into a girl it would feel a bit cheap, the melancholic Tchaikovsky air would be lost and it would be just another goofy naked scene.
