I used to wince at my chuuni days and the later edgy high school days. At that time I wrote a horrible, horrible 1800 page story with a self-insert protagonist and when I thought about it I shriveled up. Poor sentence structure, no word variety, questionable grammar, stupid plot twists, a contrived love story just to make it look like there was a love triangle (there was no contest for best girl, really) and so much needless edge for the opposing faction just to paint the protagonist as a true Kira good boy.
But you know what? I accepted it. I read it laughing out loud. I even plan to remaster it or do a remake with my new sci-fi ideas and publish it under a pen name. Thinking about those chuuni and edgy days, I only remember an older version of me that's been upgraded.
Also my tulpa gf is based on the best girl from that horrible novel. We've been together for more than a decade.
