I liked the designs, even though I disliked the artwork and the quality of the animation felt inconsistent. The characters were kinda bland but the plot was interesting and creative. I will give you an answer. I liked the show because of many things. first the harsh contrast between the cutesy visuals and the tragic story. then the subverting of expectations. i just think pulling off something like that is not very easy. also the word shows some interesting visuals like the tech in the classroom or how madokas house looked. the show didn't have to include something like that to be a good story. but in doing so gave me something interesting to look while slower story parts were happening. the consistency in the story was also a nice part. i just hate it when someone dies or something bad happens and two episodes later everything is forgotten. the twist at the end was also great. on the first watch you have no clue if homura is a good or a bad. but on the second watch everything makes sense and you see all the little details in her character. it's not a flawless anime tho. they should have used more grafik violence. in the end not everything will hit your taste.
