You can easily watch it, I do play a ton of games, but I did not grow up in 90s, and have no experiences with arcades, don't even like fighting games, I've only played licensed anime arena fighters, and Injustice, DBFZ for "fighters", yet still loved it a lot.

I was born too late to really know and experience the joys and thrills of arcade gaming. The anime still somehow appeals to this nostalgic sense which I can't shake off though - it is pleasant. The characters are decent, the pacing makes sense and flows well. Whether you are into gaming or not it captures a zeitgiest of the late 80s/ early 90s with a cute romance side to it as well.

It looks like something straight out of a picture book!

I have no experience with arcades as I grew up in rural area, and by the time I moved to a city, only widespread "remotely resembling gaming" things are gambling machines. And I still don't care for fighting games. But I do play some vidya, and I like this series' characters and Haruo's enthusiastic attitude toward games.

The spinning version is so nice.

It's not his fault at all, I don't know whether you've read the manga or not, and since I haven't seen the anime, all I can say is that, Hidaka gave him an ultimatum to go out with her if he loses a match, and if he wins she would leave him alone, she lost but instead of leaving, got even more intense and aggressive, turned into a big tsundere and was planning to drag him to a hotel and fuck his brains out so that he'll stay with her, despite him making it plenty clear that she stands no chance, and her knowing that she cannot possibly come in between Oono and Haruo, she just refuses to move on and that is on her, not Haruo.

I disagree. That wasn't "Omega Rugal's Team". She simply went for the "boss, subboss and one with a cheap tatic" in that case, Heidern who has a "bug" that can deal tons of damage in '95 later games toned down and made as a feature for him if he does his flying head grab life steal move after a whiffed slash.

Of course Omega Rugal is top tier and arguably broken but it felt like Haruo used Robert and Takuma to take a read on her behaviour as you can see how he jumps over a fireball to start jump in combo. After that is just a curbstomp with Hidaka doing tons of beginner mistakes like random anti-air moves(Genocide Cutter with Rugal, Dark Thrust with Saisyu, etc.) after being knocked down (or with a predictable fireball) while Haruo take his time either fill his meter or taunt her to take away her meter. She jumps right into his fireballs, start Heidern round with said flying life stealing move that he just denies by a simple jump punch and then throws a fireball into Ryo's super move that happens to be invincible to fireballs. If this was a regular match, I would give that she didn't knew stuff and all but she fucking trained for this and was completely overwhelmed. In FGC lingo that match was a "how to expose someone 101".

We don't see much from their match in KOF'94 but that was Haruo at his worst and all we see is him taking a fireball super in the face. If she picked her mains it would probably go the same route or maybe Haruo wouldn't even need to lose two characters since he was prepared if she picked the full Women Fighter's Team.

To be honest it looks like Hidaka is just not that great of a player as she looks. Yeah she has insane reflexes and hand coordination movement from stuff you see like "never missing Akuma code" and her many instant Tsubame Gaeshi(it needs to be done in the air to see how hard she pull those stuff) but when it comes to strategy she comes as a one trick pony like when Haruo found a breach in her Huitzil set up. She pales in comparison to Akira who learns/adapts really fast and overcomes hardships like having half of her buttons not working in that tournament. Or even Haruo who had smarts to "read" Hidaka's gameplan and pull countermeasures in both KOF'95 and Night Warriors.

Like I said Akira is a monster. She learns a game easily and breakdown its mechanics finding optimal ways quickly. She adapts to other players strategies and overcomes with new and creative ways besides having high execution and great reflexes.

Haruo is your average "tryhard" guy who isn't really above average in physical skills but tries as much to learn the game and is creative to adapt to situations and overcome his opponent. He is really good a reading and finding flaws in his opponent's gameplan as how he managed to beat not only both girls but climb his way in that Kyoto Super Turbo tournament.

Hidaka is probably the best in physical skills (reaction and execution) and is really good at studying a game in long run by learning while she fights opponents but she really lacks in "improvisation" or developing different gameplans. She just relies heavily on what a strong character can do. Maybe that's probably why she's not fond of 3D fighters.

I'm not really taking account that rail shooter the girls played since it was more Akira learning how to be good at the game than hand-eye coordination. Besides one thing is being good at grabbing a gun and other in holding a stick. Maybe the girls aren't that good playing on a pad for example.

Manual. Taunts in early KOFs takes away opponent's meter so it's harder for them to do their super moves.

The ending song is pretty cute and works really wel, for intense drama or romantic climaxes at the end of episodes but the opening wong is a mess.

Always skip the opening even though it's visually cool and they hit each other's butts.

I found entertaining on how bad it made Hidaka look in the last two matches. Also Nee-san and mom are the best thing of this series.

SFII Movie was good. And the II Victory anime started amazing with Guile destroying Ken and Ryu trying to pick a random fight at some bar but that falls under "non canon" stuff since Cammy, Chun Li and others are really out of character.

I have watched many 2.5D anime enough to know how it works. There were so many times that animators didn't get the framerate right and the anime came out very choppy.

You can still see some choppiness in HSG but it looks much better than before.

I think a big problem is when there are action scenes or high movement but in HSG the action is done in the games that uses footage from the original ones and sprites that of course doesn't work the same as the 3D models. But I have to admit as nee-san at the beginning of the 15 episode/3rd OVA they got better than in the regular episodes.

Definitely notice that its a lot smoother in the OVAs. Episode 15 for sure.

So you want the viewers who are not aware that Ryuuko no Ken is Art of Fighting and be confused when they see Ryo on the screen or shit on the anime for seeing Bison appear in SFII but see the subtitles telling them it's Vega, people with nostalgia for their Turbografx seeing Haruo go apeshit about some kind of PC that runs the same games as their old console? She also said something that was translated as "all that's left". That's the thing with translations is not about doing literally word for word but also adapt so text makes sense to the reader taking him the target and that's what localization is.

Well, she is a problem with his relationship with Akira and he can't be that retarded to not notice that. The only thing he gets with Hidaka is someone else to play at the arcades but even that might be a nuisance with those guys at her club. Doesn't his buddy has some experience to help him?

The entire show seems to have gotten more forced, specifically on the romance part. I liked how everything was more subtle in the earlier episodes, but now it seems like everytime other characters appear on screen they NEED to talk about either Akira and Haruo hooking up, or games. The segment with the butler sneaking games into his car and then into his room was particularly forced; same with Makoto who just appeared out of nowhere to help some rando get together with her sister.

The anime feels unever compared to the manga, the character expressions, gameplay references and extra content make it flow smoother and are less exaggerated. Also I enjoy the drawn game references a lot more.

Tell me about it. In Brazilian Portuguese they fuck up many times even the Marvel series fucking up the localized names of heroes/villains and not even doing consistently. One of the things that bothers me in their High Score Girl is the usage of contemporary slangs in a series that takes place in early 90's.
