it's ok, i reckon bake outclasses every other gatari part and im not fond of every show on your grid but mostly i think they're good

Not as disappointed as many are, but I wasn't as "hyped" to begin with. It does, naturally, look very different from the first season, and even more different from the manga (which has an art style that can neither be directly adapted nor surpassed anyway). It's not breathtaking animation, but for previews, and for what little those show, it seems solid enough. Seiyuu and OST sounded good. In the end, my enjoyment of the episodes will mostly depend on how well they manage to capture the manga's characters and atmosphere.
Austin Smith
>In the end, my enjoyment of the episodes will mostly depend on how well they manage to capture the manga's characters and atmosphere.
I'm hoping they pull that off too. I have a friend who is in the same boat, loves the story, the quality of season one was just a huge bonus. I'm more in it for the visuals as per usual but not entirely, I like a lot of the characters from the story as well.
Daniel Price
The guy who has lupin and conan on his 2x2 chart, he goes also by the name "patrician fag".
Charles Jackson
>the quality of season one was just a huge bonus.
I was very satisfied with it, but compared to Murata's work in the manga, even that season fell short. All things considered, it was a superb adaptation of the manga. And admittedly, I did hesitate putting it on my 3x3 for that reason: It's nothing more than that. I still enjoyed it immensely, but especially after making my manga-3x3 that contains OPM as well, I do wonder whether it should be on my anime-3x3. Then again, it is the most likely to be replaced of those 9 anyway, should something else come along.

Nothing from this winter season. And nothing I've watched from my backlog either.
The last thing that I considered, and that came extremely close, was Zombieland Saga. It still might end up on my 3x3, depending on what lies in its future. It will most probably get a second season, and should that be consistent in quality, there's a good chance it'll take OPM's place.

That was my only gripe with the show. Episodes 1, 2, and then 5 were so good that I decided to stick with the show but the rest of it was meh IMO. At the end of the second episode I was sure I was watching a 10/10, like the next space dandy with just crazy different episodic musical themes.
Ethan Parker

Nolan Morris
>the rest of it was meh
I liked all of the episodes to some extend, really, but 6 and 7 were a bit boring, being typical idolshow-drama. But I loved how episodes 8 and 9 broke that mold completely and mangaged to tackle serious subjects in a humorous way. (I didn't like the trolls episode 8 attracted though.)
Episodes like 3, 4 and 10 - but also 2 to some extend - were typical transitional episodes where not that much happened, but they were, nonetheless, good for character building purposes. It did have a strong exposition, in comparison to which the finale fell a bit flat.
My favourites were 5, 8 and 9 (for different reasons and in no particular order). My least favourite 6 and 7. Though, on a condensed rewatch, the weaker episodes don't bother me much, which is a good sign.
One deciding factor for me not rating it among my top picks yet is that with all its teasing for a sequel, it simply doesn't feel conclusive (or complete) so far, and waiting for the second season seems more appropriate.
But I do wonder why it's rarely found on other people's 3x3, despite being extremely popular. Fans of it might just not be the same people who participate in here.

Ryan Rodriguez
>resizing images
Important notice: Down-sizing images! Try not to upscale. If you really have to, use advanced methods like neural networks. But, generally, don't upscale at all.
That also means: Don't use one of those "mosaic makers" you find online, as some of them tend to do exactly that, needlessly.
Of course, you can and should also crop your images. You may add borders of any kind. And you can be somewhat creative.
Gavin Martin
First time making one of these.
Honestly hesitant about the last two (K-On and Tatami) because there are a couple of series that could fill up those spots.
In the case of K-On, it could have easily been Lucky Star, Haruhi, Nichijou, or Hyouka.
In the case of Tatami, it could have been Katanagatari or Mononoke.
Also I would love to fit Cardcaptor Sakura too.

Surprisingly good, I like you
Distasteful, and even without those Shaft warcrimes, you still have some bad Yuasa, bad Yamada, and a trashy 90s show that just showed how far anime had fallen since the great 70s

Kek. So exactly what Disney and all of its personified animal movies have done to countless hordes of modern young people? That scene in the lion king with the can you feel the love tonight song reaches Tezuka levels of furry degeneracy and as far as I know, nobody ever really batted an eye showing it to every impressionable child of that era.
Adrian Martin
I don't believe you in the slightest but whatever. Of the half dozen Brazilian 17 year olds I know, many of which are over 18, they all have identical taste
But you are right that there is a type of Brazilian 17 year olds that loves Dezaki and Doremi, all Brazilians love Ashita no Joe
It's fascinating that they have less individuality than the Chinese
Noah Sullivan
Brazilians and Flips are essentially the same in that regard. Both also have a very particular hardon for RoV. Explains why soap operas are so popular in both countries.
Leo Cooper
>American
No, but good to know you're just a posturing Europoor with an inferiority complex.
Hunter Collins
Brazilians and Flips keep getting into fist fights and losing because they're weak, so they might associate themselves with Joe for that reason
And the Flips definitely like RoV because of their crossdressing obsession
Juan Sullivan
>Europoor
This meme has never been accurate, given how we have a handful of countries with a higher standard of living and a significantly richer populus. Then again, if you aren't American you're either SA from some other Anglo country. Not much better I'd say. I'd give quite a bit for flags at this point. Filtering Anglos would be a step in the right direction.
Carter Foster
>Shin Getter is the worst Getter OVA
I pretty much agree. Neo vs Shin was mostly unremarkable (the title is just a straight up lie and the original squad only appears for like 5 minutes) except for that part where Shin Getter overloads and turns blue, which was hype as fuck. The cowboy mecha was also hilarious.
Shin had mostly shitty animation (they must have reused the Getter 1 transformation scene 20+ times throughout the show) and the OP being used as an insert song almost every single episode got tiring. There was some cool stuff though, like the temple fistfight in the first episode, most of the Heian arc, and the last episode especially with Emperor's appearance.
Anyway my reason for using that image in the grid is because I didn't take any screenshots from Armageddon before I deleted it, and Ryouma is pretty much the same across all the OVAs.
That's fair enough about Kyousougiga. It's without a doubt something that demands multiple watches to really get everything out of it; for me I think it absolutely it deserves it. It ticked all the boxes of stuff I love about anime and more. If you could expand on whether there was anything specific or if it just didn't click with you that'd be cool. Also that's my Zetsubou-sensei frame!
I saw Onihei as more of a Sherlock Holmes or even Lupin style episodic anime - that is, primarily for light entertainment - so I can't agree with your point about the arcs. My main problems with it were about the production side. Anyway my grid was about the characters specifically, not necessarily the shows. Heizou was a very charismatic MC.
Easton Johnson
Flags aren't necessarily relevant to the board, but it would certainly explain a lot of behaviour
Caleb Phillips
Yea Forums is an anglo site, stay mad and jealous.

>You can have /pol/ and /hm/.

Shin vs Neo also adapted that awesome section from the manga where Musashi tears the Getter open. That scene was fantastic.

>i cant imagine that someone with code geass as a favorite has really delved into mecha
I haven't. I am starting to though. But the Mecha aspects really aren't what makes Code Geass a favorite for me. I have watched 0079, all of the Macross stuff that came out before 7 and just recently the Patlabor OVA which I plan to follow up with the movies soon enough. Also Eva and TTGL. And while I absolutely loved Macross SDF and Plus, I didn't like them anywhere near as much as Geass. I feel like Geass along with Mushishi will just be perpetual favorites of mine. They have held the top two spot since I've watched them years ago and I have watch a lot of anime since then.
Gavin Butler
>we all know
It really doesn't seem like you "know" very much, then.
>the komugi ova is really nothing like soultaker
I know, which is why I was so surprised that it's supposedly linked to it. Especially because the directing doesn't evne indicate any similarities whatsoever. Hardly even recognized that characters.
Connor Hughes
MAL is telling me there's the individual entries which total 17 volumes or a 'compilation' version that's 9 volumes. Which do you mean? I'd be more inclined to read it if it's the latter since I don't read much manga at all.

It was published in five parts over several decades. The Getter Saga version has some added pages that provide context or add more content. It's really not horribly long overall, but it's not short either. Medium length for a manga.

>As an additional note, Wolf Children has a furry sex scene
You're technically not wrong, but I wouldn't exactly call it a sex scene. They show just enough to confirm that Hana loved him enough to accept him into her bed in his werewolf form. None of the imagery was ment to titillate. If somebody can get off to the one or two seconds they are on screen together in that moment that doesn't show any nudity at all then good for them.

>how children's shows like Gamba and Ginga Tetsudou
You make it hard for other people to take you seriously, given how you use the term "children's shows" as a negative label while defending Retard X Retard, a "children's show". Besides, why would you associate Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru with children entertainment? Unlike the novel, the film really doesn't seem to be something a child would enjoy. At least I am hardpressed to believe that many do, given the extremely slow pacing and uneventfulness of most segments.
As far as Gamba is concerned, to it's me the prime example of a flawless adventure story. It has just the right amount of grim reality alongside the "fun". The directing is stellar on all fronts. From structure of the episodes, to the utilization of color (first and foremost by taking away attention from humans), impeccable acoustics that give otherwise fairly weightless critters a sound of thier own, ingenuous utilization of the animal setting to turn a run off the mill island-to-island story into a an interesting journey because of the change in perspective and very well animated sequences such as brawls or the fox fight. Very imaginitive, especially for a mid 70s TV show.
Then again, as far as I am concerned there's about a thousand anime with more merit than Retard X Retard.
Ryan Peterson
Eva was published in a shounen magazine too.
Henry Taylor
Anno quite clearly made NGE addressing the problems of otaku, read: manchildren. So what's your point?
Asher Ramirez
That's an adaptation.
Ethan Lewis
Gamba and Ginga Tetsudou never inspired tens of mangaka to write successful manga and shape the biggest demographic by its own. Neither did they create so much original content, that even to this day its getting replicated, quoted and praised by million of people throughout the world.
Your subjective opinions are worthless and irrelevant when confronted with simple facts.
David Johnson

Not the same poster. I don't even disagree with you that most mecha anime are downright terrible. Just so happens that Patlabor2, DYRL and RahXephon, which is bar none the most well constructed TV show this artform has ever spawned, aren't. The rate of shit mecha to good mecha is pretty damn bad. However, the good thing about mecha is that despite being garbage 90% of the time, 5% of those remaining 10% just so happen to be some of the greatest accomplishments in animation history.
Juan Williams

Again, you shouldn't talk about things you lack any form of knowledge of. Your behavior is particularly cute because your supposed evidence doesn't even address the argument. So we are where we were at the begining: maybe actually watch anime. If you did, you'd be aware that most of those comparisons can be tracked back all the way to Raideen, and that even the supposedly unique sequences of EoE are quite literally taken from OVAs a la Birth. Also
>trying to say that RaphXephon is one of the
No, I am not. It is the bar none most well constructed as far as plotfaggotry goes, which is what it focuses on. Unlike NGE, which is a character study primarily focusing on psycho-analysis, it focuses on subplots, chevkovs guns and red herrings more than anything else. So please user, stop parroting reddit memes but instead maybe actaully watch anime, mecha in particular. Oh, and brushing up your knowledge regarding western literature, mesoamerican languages, music theory and the study of aesthetics can't hurt. Unlike NGE, RahXephon actually uses western compositions a la Dance of the Maidens with thematic purpose and meaning, while Anno was cockblocked by the copyright holders and not allowed to use it.
>I avoid movies altogether
Why is that? You're a character guy, and therefore think movies are too shallow? You don't even watch movies linked to the shows you've seen and enjoyed?

Rahxephon is self-admittedly one big homage to Eva. Right down to the most subtle shit like one of the songs Qoun plays being Polovtsian Dances, the song Anno originally wanted to be the Eva OP. It's very clearly a show made by people who love Eva for people who love Eva.

What am I supposed to get from this, especially since half it is merely repeating my own post back to me? Where you so busy googling for an argument that you didn't even comprehend what I wrote? NGE is a show made for people who love mecha, which is why it is littered with hundreds of referemces to other works and downright copy pastes entire sequences from them. Both shows are about as different in their approach as they could possibly be. In literature you generally differentiate between a plot driven and a character driven story. That's essentially what you have here.
Anthony King

I'm not trying to make a case. I'm just discussing this movie because I rarely get a chance too. If all you see is a furry sex scene and that bothers you then that's fine. Again I'd interpret it more as being metaphorical of a lover accepting an imperfect partner for what they are. You could apply that to being representative of a physical or mental disability/illness, a deformity or burn/scar that could be usually kept hidden by clothing, a potential condition or temperament that could be passed on to future children. Literally anything that love could and would have to surpass to make an intimate relationship with the intent of having children work, you could assume that was meant to be symbolic of. Hosada, just due to his preferences wanted to make the story about a transforming wolf man who would produce transforming wolf children with any potential partner. That doesn't bother me.
Christian Diaz
Given that Anno and Izubuchi are very good friends, have worked on projects together that they've invited each other to (Cutey Honey, Yamato, CCA) and how Izubuchi was one of the first people to work on NGE during its planning stages, it is likely that the Dance of the Maidens (which is what was specifically used, this retard can't even differentiate) was intergrated also because it was supposed to be used by Anno. The thing is: In RahXephon it's first and foremost an homage to Kismet, a western musical that modified the track to create the song called "Strangers in Paradise", being an allegory for the main casts circumstances. That notion is also supported by the fact that neither RahXephon nor Kismet actually use instruments to actually play the notes, but instead use humming/singing.
