Giving it to JC Staff in the first place was a mistake.

I think we sorely underestimated how much of a miracle the first season in terms of animation, as did the producers. They're just looking at what Murata's putting out and they just can't figure out who could be willing to keep up with that kind of quality so they decided to let JC Staff take the blame. Of course there's always the theory that the second season is a throw-away to prepare for the third season, but really, if we were to imagine the third season covers at least some of the MA Arc, the perspective of animating something like Garou VS Orochi would make any animator feel suicidal. Hell you'd even be hard pressed to do anything involving the Giant Centipede justice. It's too much of a challenge.

That's retarded. Madhouse did the last season on a shoestring budget and performed miracles. I guarantee they could get more money for season 2, given how much popularity it garnered on release due to the shorts and stuff that came after. I just don't understand WHY Madhouse didn't take it on or why it wasn't offered to them.

Madhouse wouldn't need freelancers with a higher budget. The problem with OPM S1 was that it was a relatively unknown series, even in terms of the murata drawn one, so they couldn't throw a budget of much value at it. Madhouse picked it up because they were running the series more as a hobby than a profit hence why there were some moments of quality. Fortunately OPM got Mob Psycho 100 an anime and its one of the best series out atm but for some reason, they don't want to risk a larger budget on OPM despite it being a global profit instead of just a niche one like Mob.

JC Staff is always making a ton of stuff, they produce the highest volume of late night anime in the industry and probably only Toei beats them for putting out spinoff movies.
