Is it worth reading?
Adam Flores
Michael Ward
why not read it yourself and find out?
Carson Young
Absolutely It's a funny Fantasy-alternate history romp that won't fail to smise If You have allready read the KJV and can identify the same translation errors.
William Green
Mark Twain called it “chloroform in print”.
Nathan Hill
I don't want to waste my time if it isn't true.
Noah Sanders
Not really. Some parts are quite entertaining alt-history but a lot of it consists of sermons in cod-KJV language, and large sections are straight copy-and-pasted from the KJV.
Evan Morgan
ALL men have heard of the Mormon Bible, but few except the "elect" have seen it, or, at least, taken the trouble to read it. I brought away a copy from Salt Lake. The book is a curiosity to me, it is such a pretentious affair, and yet so "slow," so sleepy; such an insipid mess of inspiration. It is chloroform in print. If Joseph Smith composed this book, the act was a miracle--keeping awake while he did it was, at any rate. If he, according to tradition, merely translated it from certain ancient and mysteriously-engraved plates of copper, which he declares he found under a stone, in an out-of-the-way locality, the work of translating was equally a miracle, for the same reason.
The book seems to be merely a prosy detail of imaginary history, with the Old Testament for a model; followed by a tedious plagiarism of the New Testament. The author labored to give his words and phrases the quaint, old-fashioned sound and structure of our King James's translation of the Scriptures; and the result is a mongrel--half modern glibness, and half ancient simplicity and gravity. The latter is awkward and constrained; the former natural, but grotesque by the contrast. Whenever he found his speech growing too modern--which was about every sentence or two--he ladled in a few such Scriptural phrases as "exceeding sore," "and it came to pass," etc., and made things satisfactory again. "And it came to pass" was his pet. If he had left that out, his Bible would have been only a pamphlet.
-Mark Twain
Bentley Sanchez
Damn. i want Mark Twain to bash my own book
Xavier Perry
So I just checked, and the phrase 'it came to pass' occurs 1322 times in the Book of Mormon, accounting for 5288 of the book's 270,000 or so words. So only around 2% of the entire book. The source text of the KJV (i.e. the textus receptus) uses the phrase in Hebrew at around the same frequency, but the translators simply did not translate it the same each time. If it bothers you so much, you can read the plain English version published by the Community of Christ (RLDS) church.
Grayson Price
Are you Mormon?
Jeremiah Martin
No, I'm just interested in it. There is an LDS-user who shows up here occasionally though so maybe he will come to this thread.
Carter Long
Neat. If he does I have some questions.

mormanon here.
if you like the bible I recommend it. I actually prefer the bible. BOM Is more like an exploration of cultural effects of civilizations being righteous. Its also more literal than the bible.
i don't know why Protestants or Catholics hate it so much. it doesn't teach any unique Mormon doctrines. it's just more Bible stories none of the Mormon stuff comes from BOM.
of course if your an atheistfag then you will still hate.
Gabriel Peterson
>the phrase 'it came to pass' occurs 1322 times in the Book of Mormon
Where's Harold Bloom when you need him?

I dunno man, Mormon porn is amazing and well worth the cost of this book existing.

depends on your age. 20-28? yeah man just come move to Utah valley.
the thing about Mormon girls is they care a lot about things like:
- education
- career prospects
- responsibility
- church
so you can't be a NEET.
of course. they will still make out with Chad given the opportunity, but that's who they are looking to marry.
over age 30?
good luck.
Aaron Hughes
What's so special about 29?
Ryan Johnson
nothing, just giving general ranges. you don't want to be closer to 30 because the good girls are married and the remaining ones either are careeermaxing, have insane standards, crazy, or divorced.
Carson Fisher
>20-28?
Yes. I am very knowledgeable about the Bible too. Does that help?
Isaiah Martinez
I considered Mormonism because of its dedication to community and family values. I'm pretty close to an atheist leaning on agnostic but atheists are generally degenerate in values. I doubt I would ever find a girl who's atheist and conservative. But I don't want to belong to a religion if I don't believe in it, not to mention that 10% tithe.
Cameron Turner
I'm from Utah and I can tell you that by the time you're 30 the window is closed. All Mormon girls worth marrying have long since gotten married and are probably on kid 2 or 3.
Mormon girls can literally pick whoever hey want and Mormon guys go on missions specifically because it makes them valuable to them.
By the time you're 30 the only girls left are either crazy, fat/ugly, divorced or really focused on a career. Mormons marry early and that's just the way it is. Wait too long and you'll miss out
T. Former Mormon who went on a mission and got married at 28 (after leaving the church)

Are you Christian?
Jack Ortiz
Mormons are christians, so yes. I'm not so much a "former" Mormon as much as someone who just moved on from the whole church thing and isn't religious anymore. I fell into inactivity.
There was no big moment where I decided "I'm not going to be Mormon anymore for x,y and z reasons".
I even served a 2 year mission in Asia way back when

You might get some ideas on how to create your own religion.
Connor Anderson
Can't I be 30+ and marry a 18yo Mormon?
Xavier Wilson
Nope.
Justin Watson
I don't want to create my own religion.

What if I look young and lie about my age? Also same thing but I don't look young?

Only if you yourself are also Mormon, otherwise you don't have a shot

Wearer of Holy Panties detected
Gabriel Sanchez
Do their women actually wear Holy Panties?
H-hot..
Parker Flores
They're not panties. Magic Mormon underwear is huge, unflattering and absolutely NOT sexy. They're like boxers for women
Ryder Torres
Yeah... hot...
Brandon Richardson
Why do they do this? What is the purpose?
Jayden Scott
secret wet t-shirt party orgies

Unironic Mormon here. I will not be replying to (you)s because I don't like talking to people on the internet and I'm too retarded to actually debate.
The church is definitely imperfect, it's history is weird and the historical accuracy of it's texts are dubious at best. However, through study and the Holy Spirit I know
1) Christ is the only way to God
2) God really does sincerely love us and wants the best for us
3) Families are together forever
4) God works with and is aware of our every day lives
5) We can improve and change though hard work and faith in Christ
My favorite scriptures are
Ether 12:27
Alma 37:6
Haggai 1
D&C 6:33-37 (very much this one)
I would recommend reading it because I found it full of good tidbits that changed my life and brought me closer to Christ
I promise that wherever you are in life God knows you, loves you, and wants you to return to him. You can change your ways, start with basic prayers. I honestly don't care if you read the book of Mormon, just tonight try praying to God consistently and it will change your life. Ask to feel his love, ask for the blood of Christ to be applied to your soul and ask to be made strong
He loves you, if you do your best you will make it user. You can do it.
(Also read Anti tech revolution, it's very important but unrelated)

If God loved us he would have never allowed the reformation to happen.

Read it, ponder on it and think about what you read and how it can affect your life for the better if you live by its teachings, and the sincerely ask God in prayer if it's true.
He'll let you know through the Holy Spirit

Usually they hook you up with a jumpsuit that has the same Masonic markings on it and you just wear that and briefs instead of the usual underwear.
