Nazis are bad

All the wrong people seem to like it so it's probably bad.

it's old as fuck and was written by a journalist who even in the 60s was criticized for not being up on current scholarship, so it's probably meh but I'm not going to read it

Very biased. I was disappointed to find out how good of a goy Shirer is, editorializing his "history" with the intent of humiliating Hitler's memory and making a farce of the Third Reich. I've heard David Irving's material is much more objective but unfortunately it's difficult to get a personal copy of his work.

the butthurt this book gets is the same butthurt howard zinn's people US history gets. they don't take a centrist approach to history by not saying the nazis or capitalist class are objectively the bad guys. unless you're a liberal or centrist, you won't have a problem with it OP

>the intent of humiliating Hitler's memory and making a farce of the Third Reich.

They did that themselves.

>HITLER BAD

holy FUCK someone get this man an award already, utterly groundbreaking take

>. I've heard David Irving's material is much more objective
Where did you hear that? Irving's considered a nutter by essiently all historians today on National Socialist Germany.

typical nihilistic edgelord neo-nazi thinking the more unpopular a take is the better

Irving is hated by the establishment because of the accuracy of his books, which precludes their anti-German propaganda about rollercoasters of death, eagle and bear cages, lampshades, soap, and death showers...

>Bulldozes Europe until global capital calls in literally another continent for aid
Yeah, total clowns.
I heard it from an astute personal friend whose only complaint of David Irving is that he couldn't tell what his opinion was after reading Hitler's War, Churchill's War, and Goebbels. That's meant as a compliment. And no, I do not trust academics or whatever the establishment considers to be "credible" historians.

Shirer does go out of his way to character assassinate everyone in the third reich at every opportunity regardless of whether it's relevant to the topic at hand or not. Some of it would not be considered as critical today like pointing out that Ernst Röhm was a degenerate homosexual (I think that's a direct quote). Does make for an odd read if you're just looking for an objective account of the third reich.

Since everyone is destroying the book, what better alternatives are there on the topic?

this, David Irving? (what books) and who else?

Very readable and entertaining but not very scholarly. He has first hand experience of the Third Reich throughout the thirties so he has a lot of interesting anecdotes that make it worth reading.

>Adolf Hitler is probably the last of the great adventurer-conquerors in the tradition of Alexander, Caesar and Napoleon, and the Third Reich the last of the empires which set out on the path taken earlier by France, Rome and Macedonia. The curtain was rung down on that phase of history, at least, by the sudden invention of the hydrogen bomb, of the ballistic missile and of rockets that can be aimed to hit the moon.

or maybe we wanna take a more nuanced look into these historical events rather subscribing to the basic bullshit of meh good/evil that you worth less cunts always have to say to show how much more advanced you are then the rest of the third grade class

lmao he looks like the protagonist in a 90s adventure game where the internet sucks so he has to go to the library to find some obscure fact about hitler as a clue to solve a puzzle

also great

>muh centrism

imagine being such a brainlet that you equate non-moralistic approaches to history with "centrism". i swear to god some people are only capable of viewing the world through the lens of twitter memes.
