Not the person you're replying to, but I oddly enjoyed the book. If you go in understanding that it is quite literally a deconstruction of the yuppie edgelord stereotype, you'll be in for an incredibly enjoyable ride. There's fantastic literary devices and tricks, though the overall composition and style is somewhat weak. Ellis' other works are far less enjoyable because of that. There are small details that really illustrate the decline to madness. Most of the criticisms stem from misunderstanding the edge, or just not enjoying the way it's portrayed. Both fair criticisms, but take them with a grain of salt.

So the meme about 30+ year old anons being sad and pathetic is incorrect: the threshold is at 23. And I have crossed it, or am at best upon it! Oh, woe! What wanly loathesome things we are that loiter in Yea Forums beyond our college years; since graduation I have been a ghost, unable to carry on, to move forward, instead palely reminiscing of there where I can no longer tread! I've never checked out Ayn Rand, but I've heard of her a ton. She seems to be a polarized figure. With many claiming her ideas are outright horrible while others highly respect her work, very few inbetween.
