I've always been very interested in Twain but have never checked out his work. Got a feeling when I finally do, he'll easily become a favorite. A lot of people would say the exact opposite of what you stated - out of ignorance towards his satire I'm sure. This post has made me even more curious. The Mysterious Stranger, or whatever, sounds right up my alley.

Definitely give it a go. He was brilliant, but also completely unpretentious and easy to get into, so I think you'll enjoy him.

>How was he so based?
He suffered from lead poisoning his whole life and it ultimately killed him. You literally have to be sick to be a lefty.

>>shat on Richard Wagner for being a racist piece of shit
Cool. He shat on someone not for their artistic worth but for their views. A bona fide libtard.

Awesome, I'll give him a shot

I'm with you but it has nothing to do with left or right.

>the greatest American author of all time
a title worth shit

>contender for the greatest American author of all time
Oh fuck Then he must be a real genius! You surely beaten me the fuck off!

SEETHING yurofag.
Your literature is irrelevant now, you know that, right?

>anti racist
>uses Nigger like 100 times in one book
Lol

How is that racist?

is the mysterious stranger good?
the premise seens interesting and eerie

>contender for the greatest American author of all time
Even in his time he wasn't. The works of Hawthorne and Melville were leagues ahead of his hokey stories.

This guy is a HACK

As if an American novelist has anything worthwhile to say.

proof that the leftoids have controlled the universities and literary criticism since before the 20th century. The reason Puritanism wasn't rooted out in England as Defoe wanted was that the universities weren't touched.

I feel like this is going to happen to me... I'm a hokey ass cracker autodidact with an attention defecite (lit and music exempt) and a substance problem who just scribbles ramblings that I hope to convert into novels. I feel a kinship with passionate authors and artists who leave a legacy despite being subpar in the eyes of the literati. I admire Twain's redneck aristocracy, and aspire to have similar praises.
>Melville, Twain, and we can't forget the lyrical ramblings of user.

Americans, like the English, are a pragmatic, utilitarian people. English empiricism and materialism combined with American pragmatism is a destructive force. It's bourgeois values to their furthest extreme. If it doesn't result in monetary gain, then it isn't worthwhile. It's economic reductionism. And as the English produced neither any great artists or musicians, Americans produced neither any great literature. Or art of anything culturally significant.
