I like graphic novels, but im not interested in the feminist or most superhero themes that fill most suggestion lists. Also i prefer standalone works, or very short series. Can be fiction, non-fiction, historical etc.
Any suggestions, or suggestions where I can easily find reviews / lists etc?
>I like graphic novels You mean mangas and comics? Only a pseud feels the need to artificially elevate what he consumes with a pseud term like "graphic novel", because only a pseud believes "comic" and "manga" to be pejorative.

Graphic novel is a marketing term. You like comics.

The term makes sense, just like the term "visual novel." As normal comics are published as long-running serials I think it's justifiable to have a more specific term for things that are published in more of a singular "novel"-like format. I've never considered it some attempt at elevating the material, though maybe that's the actual reason people use it. I don't know.

it's exactly why the term was invented, then it stuck because of various inadequacies with "comic" basically like you've guessed, it will always rile up the language police pseud squad though so just ignore that

A comic is a comic no matter the distribution. Are serialized works by Balzac and Dickens worth putting in a camp separate from those published in a single volume all at once?

I dont mind the labels "comics" or "manga" at all actually, its just that "graphic novel" is the one that I usually see applied to these sort of things.. in shops, reviews etc. Kinda makes it easier to narrow down a search you'd hope.
also this.

What are terms that help me filter within manga? I've seen the term Seinen for uhm less highschool / kiddie stuff. Anything else? Is there a name for single issue / short run series?

>Are serialized works by Balzac and Dickens worth putting in a camp separate from those published in a single volume all at once? Yes -- crap.
>As normal comics are published as long-running serials Most "graphic novels" are first published as "limited series" of floppies before being collected in trade paperback format. Also I understand that European comics like FB comics are mostly first published in "folio" style softcover books with many pages, with exceptions like British comics.

OP asks a simple questions, has to wade through the usual squawking over "graphic novel." Get over it. The term is widely used, not pretentious (it's not like it's being called "visual hybrid literature"), and there is a considerable difference between stories designed to fit in monthly 25-page installments (usually created collaboratively) and works intended to be read as a separate whole, usually done by one writer/artist. And even when we are just discussing collected issues, it's still way past time we had a term that didn't also mean "funny," for Christ's sake. Terminology aside, Taniguchi is great, and if you're enjoying him, there are many other places you could go. I've been enjoying some of the older gekiga by Yoshiro Tatsumi and Tezuka. In Western stuff, definitely check out Adrian Tomine. You might also like Daniel Clowes, Seth, Megan Kelso, Jeff Lemire or Guy Delisle. I can name specific works if you want (and another user mentioned Corto Maltese, which I'm enjoying the hell out of as the new translations finish up).
