Tfw work at a library

>tfw work at a library
>girl wants to take out three harry potter books
>suggest some classics to her like the brothers karamazov, infinite jest
>she seems reluctant at first, but I convince her to take those two books as well
Feels good helping the plebs become educated.

in my experience this doesn't work.

>tfw work at baskin robbins
>girl wants to order chocolate and vanilla
>suggest some classics to her like the Oreo Cheesecake, Mango Tango
>she seems reluctant at first, but I convince her to take those two flavors as well
Feels good helping the plebs become educated.

>classics like the brothers karamazov, infinite jest
>classics
>brothers karamazov
>infinite jest

>Ha! I ruined some girl's nascent love for literature by being an annoying gatekeeping neckbeard!
Pat yourself in the back, faggot.

Shut the fuck up you YA retard.

solid LARP, needs a frog pic to be believable

Based

>food analogy

>things that didn't happen

>Pat yourself in the back
That sounds painful desu.
She most likely won't read them anyway and just took them because you pressured her into it.

Subtle

If everyone was a pretentious pseud like you, then you would lose your superiority complex and thus your ego would be completely deflated.

>girl wants to read book
>I suggest her objectively better books
I don't know where your 'ego' projection is coming from.

The only thing you changed is the place of those books for a few weeks/days.
Congratulations, dipshit.

because of plebs the patricians exist.
you're a fucking faggot for suggesting her those books.

And this is why you’re the eternal pseud.

>objectively
Stopped reading there.

My own experience was binge reading everything Moorcock then being advised better authors by an old librarian. By the time 2 years had passed i was a reading junkie and began reading real classics from my own volition instead of babylonian princess, unicorns and phoenix shit. Forcing the classics through the throat of someone who has no reading habit is betting that he'll somehow get through them by his dormant patrician taste alone. Since we are unto food analogy, some taste need to be acquired. Imagine in real life, wouldn't fly so good.

What should I have given her?

a girl reading harry potter would be more likely to enjoy something comfy and escapist like war and peace. shes not going to get ij and tbk is dark and crazy.

You did the right thing OP. Don't pay attetion to people here saying otherwise.

HP readers need to be "eased in" from YA low tier to higher tiers of comedy and genre fiction.

For instance you can go like:
HP -> Pratchett -> Rob Grant -> scifi/fantasy classic authors, or even outright classics
Notice the author selection to accommodate female decision making process (ie: Pratchett is 2nd best selling author YA after JKR, Rob Grant is that dude who wrote red dwarf, every literary cunt loves red dwarf...).

It's funny how there's another thread right now where an user is arguing that Yea Forums hasn't lost its elitist edge. Proof right here.

Name three (3) reasons why food analogies are any worse than other analogies.

Protip: You can’t.

I don't think you know what gatekeeping means.

There is no analogy needed for the OP.
Mixing incompatible ice cream flavors together is not the same as recommending objectively superior literature to read.
The reason food analogies are worse, is because they tend to be used by brainlets/midwits - they aren't difficult to come up with and they don't actually illuminate the idea.

The books that she asked for

Cringe because you’re pushing her too far in the deep end, if she’s reading ya fiction you should first suggest something on he level of Steinbeck (just an example because he’s a nice comfy read), forcing someone to go straight to something like infinite jest might make them feel a little confused and won’t give them an interest in literature
You’re a pseud

>at the library trying to check out some harry potter books
>weird annoying librarian dude wont stop bothering me to read his weird old people literature
>oblige in checking them out just to get him to stop bothering me
>never touch them
>hope hes not working when i go back

t. dumb leftist/fembrain

some good deep dicking

women shouldn't be educated at all, you did a bad thing

Not subtle at all unless you're retarded

In case this is real, some books aren't for everyone. Just because you enjoy something does not mean she will.

she's not going to read them

>At book shop
>Just want to buy Harry potter books
> Some greasy looking guy at the counter won't stop going on about a dusty eggs fee or some shit
>"You must read Infinite Jess, he says, and slams this massive book on the counter, smiling grotesquely
> I assume it is an erotica and run out of the store
>Report him the next day

you're everything I hate about the 'bookish', college-age male

>classics
>infinite jest
Surely you jest

OP here, I should mention that she was 9 years old.

About as subtle as a punch to the face.

>classics
>Infinite Jest

>Infinite Jest
That book is pseud trash though.

>Why yes I am big into literature. Especially the classics!
>Some examples? Infinite Jest, Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, the list goes on.
Pure cringe there op

The role of the propagandist; that is, the job of the one who deigns to sort people; is to invoke a method of subtlety in all their interactions. Here, on the anonymous basketweaving forum, subtlety can be thrown out the window. Take heed of posters such as . They acknowledge the fact of easing one person into a certain mindset, and each path of flight must be taken one step at a time--too much, and the subject either overloads and perishes, becoming the paranoiac body, oscillating between a BwO and a desiring-machine, or they reject it entirely and are further reinforced in their pleb-tier attitudes. This is a dangerous job, and so the propagandist must be on their toes all the time, so as not to alert the attention of the powers-that-be.

I’m pretty sure he’s correct, that is gatekeeping. The OP is implying “if you’re going to enjoy the activity I enjoy, at least do it correctly the way I do”.

''The activity of controlling, and usually limiting, general access to something.''

He sees it as two distinct activities, though, inviting her to the upper echelon.

> everything is subjective.

If you believe this why are you here? just to talk about others equally valid preferences?

It's no different from grooming a child. A naive user would just snatch and rape his waifu to be, as such mindset is what Yea Forums has taught him indeed. In reality, it can take years of patience to educate one's own ideal gf.

>walk into library
>new reader, don't know where to start
>pick the harry potter books because lots of friends like them
>figure it'll be a good place to start
>walk up to counter
>large man wearing a fedora
>doesn't make eye contact but silently smirks while staring at the books
>"are you s-sure you w-want these?"
>"yes" i say with confusion
>he doesn't move or speak, wearing a shit-eating grin
>"hello? can you check me out?"
>"n-no i'm n-not checking you out, fucking f-feminazi"
>he walks away
>no one else is around
>i'm confused and stand there waiting
>i notice he's standing behind a bookshelf waiting for me to leave
>walk over to him and he jumps three feet back with a screech
>"can you check me out?"
>"w-what? b-but that would be r-rape haha"
>"can you check my BOOKS out?"
>he gets visibly angry
>"i d-don't check out shitty b-books"
>he walks away again
>find him behind another bookshelf
>"h-here read these"
>he hands me two random books
>both are huge and look dry and boring
>"i don't want these"
>"w-wow, f-fucking girls are all s-so stupid"
>"fine, if i get these, will you just check me out?"
>he does
>as i'm walking away i see him googling pictures of orangutauns and chuckling to himself

I usually like these "pov switch" greentexts, but this doesn't really work. It's impossible to feel anything but pure apathy towards an adult who wants to read Harry Potter.

Who said it was a grown adult?

I suppose I assumed from the reading level of OP's suggestions. Hopefully he'll correct me if I'm mistaken.

but how can a pleb help other plebs? let me help you, user.

you're nothing. wait...damn. you're me.
