I loved that cover as a child, my mom had it in a shelf. Really great cover. Never really liked the book though.

well, I have a keen interest in the early middle-eastern civilisations, and I've always thought about writing a post-apocalyptic novel that details the progression of tribes into primitive, centralised agricultural societies. I have an image of a King living in the wondrous splendor of a preserved Hotel lobby, filled with marble. The reigning powers would be comparable to the Assyrians, committing almost unimaginable acts of cruelty on conquered peoples, while the hero would be a Cyrus the Great figure who acts in such a comparatively benevolent way that he's almost semi-divine.

I'd also have everyone make use of all the plastic bottles lying around everywhere as one of their primary materials.

What book would you recommend to someone who knows practically nothing about said middle-eastern civilization(s) but wants to learn?
