Sup, anons. I'm from Russia. I want to buy rare books in English. Books on Amazon are expensive to buy - Fanged Noumena: Collected Writings from Nick Land costs $ 25. The problem is that I do not know whether this price is normal for America on books or not. For me personally, yes, so I thought to ask a friend who will go to America to buy these rarest books for me. Questions: in which stores I can buy books such as Land’s, Choran’s books, any philosophy, and so on. Can they be found in ordinary bookstores, or should they be searched for in certain places? And the second question: in these bookstores the prices for books are lower than on Amazon or the same?
Please forgive me for my bad english. I hope for your help.
Here is a sample list of books that I want myself:
The Anatomy of Melancholy - Burton - Fanged Noumena: Collected Writings - Nick Land The Thirst for Annihilation: Georges Bataille and Virulent Nihilism - Nick Land A Short History of Decay - Cioran The Conspiracy against the Human Race: A Contrivance of Horror - Ligotti

Does Russia have no english bookstores? If you can't buy any books pdf's usually aren't too hard to find, b-ok.cc is a good website. I think ebooks are easy to find online aswell, download an epub file reader to read those on your computer.
>Does Russia have no english bookstores? I live in a city where there is nothing at all :^) And yes, I want these books in paper form. Thanks for these site. But I need exactly the addresses of good bookstores

пoчeмy тo никтo нe oтвeчaeт, пoэтoмy я зaдaм eщё вoпpoc: Aмepикaнцы, кaк вы oбычнo пoкyпaeтe книги? Хoдитe в книжныe мaгaзины или пoкyпaeтe нa Aмaзoнe?
why no one answers, so I will ask another question: Americans, how do you usually buy books? Go to bookstores or buy on Amazon?
Blake Flores
I'm not American but there are sites that collects every independent bookstores and they sell their books together, I can find a lot of English books for a very cheap price, just search if your country has one of these bookstores sites, they usually sell used books for a nice price and the English ones are even cheaper because not many people can read English so they sell for a nice price, but it depends on the rarity of the book. Also Amazon isn't a good place to buy books if you're not American
Jaxon Jones
I usually download pdfs and read them on my phone.

Westerners nowadays think nothing of spending $25 on a new book, even though you are correct that this is very expensive. People no longer know the true value of things and they will pay this price and rationalise the purchase to themselves because it is a collected edition or because it has a nice hardback binding -- you merely see through the capitalist tricks. I think in Russia people are still concerned with value; they squeeze vegetables before they buy them. People on Yea Forums buy their books online and in large quantities, they are buying an idea instead of a physical object.
Personally I almost never buy physical books unless they are second hand and they are nice old editions with foxed pages and well-designed covers. Books like this I buy for €1-2 each at book fairs or car boot sales -- spending €10 on a book is painful to me. But there is no point in searching for books that you want to read in sales or fairs. The way to do these is to buy just the good, cheap books that you come across, ones that you have maybe heard of or you know the author. You'd be very lucky to find Nick Land second-hand. I found a Gene Wolfe book for €1 but these things are rare. Your eye for nice books will develop over time. I used to only buy books that I had heard of and knew I wanted to read but now I am pretty good at picking the classics and the quality out from among the pulp romance and thrillers.
If there is a specific book you want to read then download an epub reader on your phone. 95% of books can be found at gen.lib.rus.ec or at b-ok.org. Sometimes you will have to read a pdf. The best epub reader around is called UB reader but unfortunately they updated and changed their name to Media365 reader and the app is now shit -- you can search "UB reader apk" and download the old version of the app from legacy files. Make the font as small as possible and turn the colours to white on black. Reading from a digital screen is not easy at first but trust me when I say that your eyes and brain will adjust to it eventually.
This is by far the cheapest way to read the books you want to read and to build up a library of nice-looking editions of books you like.

In Russia, this is very bad. This is especially true of the books I want to buy. as they are rather marginal and not popular.
Easton Richardson
That’s normal for new books yeah
Logan Nelson
Totally agree with you. And, as I understand it, few people here buy books in paper form. But what about those anons that post photos of shelves in a thread with shelves? Where, then, do they buy books? And okay, the price of 25 dollars is also big for you, but what then to do if I want to get the books sounded above?
Daniel Hill
I'm American and Amazon is the most convenient, even though I hate it. I try the used book websites like thriftbooks and better world books, sometimes they have a sale. I live very far from a physical bookstore, and very farther from one that would carry the books I am interested in.
Stfu, not everyone reads pulp. Many of the books I am interested in cost hundreds of dollars, I readily settle for old editions or inferior analogs, which is still usually at least 25$ Reading ebooks, especially poorly scanned and formated digital pirate copies, is not fun. Check your privilege, dumb artcunt

I feel you, a lot of books that I want to read I need to buy them in English on these websites because there are no translations, for example I was looking forward to buy Storm of Steel by Ernst Junger and I didn't find any, the only one I find was super overpriced, in comparison I'd say it would cost like 35$ dollars, some books are really fucked up to find and I feel you because I'm not American, but these motherfuckers are lucky they have access to all types of books while we struggle to find just one copy, but that's it, there's nothing we can do about it, or you buy the overpriced book or just download PDF you know...
Joshua Campbell
Use Bookfinder.com and ISBNS.fm to find the cheapest vendor for a book (use both, they track different vendors). You can also track books using Keepa.com and have it notify you when the prices drops below your desired price, but it only tracks Amazon and Amazon Marketplace.
Gavin Jackson
Here, let's say a photo of this user, taken a year ago. Where and for how much did he buy these wonderful books?
They bought their books online or in prominent retailers for at roughly $15 each. You can read all of the books above for free, now, by downloading them from libgen.
The majority of books to be found at fairs are pulp because that's what people buy and that's what people want to get rid of.
There are three grades of book that one can buy: the first is from an antique dealer or rare book specialist, who will sell you an expensive book for what it's worth. The second is from a large company such as a franchise bookshop or Amazon who will sell you a new printing of a book for $10-30 depending on what they think the average customer will pay. The third is to buy a secondhand book from a private individual who doesn't usually give a fuck, where you will pay anything from $0.5 to $5.
These are the sort of books I buy. Likely these were very cheap.
Nathan Green
There are so many books in circulation in the US that most people don’t want/have no use for that it’s easy to get them on the cheap. In the rare cases where there isn’t any alternative, I will buy new books, but otherwise I buy them lightly used from Amazon or from brick-and-mortar stores specializing in used books. Frequently, because public libraries are underfunded and underutilized in many areas, you can buy books directly from them for pennies on the dollar. Any mid-sized city is going to have several serviceable used book stores and probably a library or two that is selling shit that’s been pulled from circulation. But looking at what you’re after you’d probably have better luck online. Your friend would really have to dig to find a copy of Fanged Noumena. Really it’s doubtful that he would find a (cheap) copy in any shop
Zachary Howard
Good user, I get it. So, I will not bother a friend, it's a rotten affair. Probably not destiny. Well, let's say I can not take a new book, it does not matter. And used. Where then can this be taken?
Jack Stewart
And to answer your question, most used books are under $10, books from libraries/charities/consignment shops are less than $5
Tyler Ramirez
How is 25$ expensive in Russia?
Luis Howard
user, and if it is purely hypothetical, you will buy these books to me in these charitable foundations very cheaply and somehow you will meet with my friend - then how do you agree?
Adam Bell
I have all of these PDF...I can send them to you
Eli Fisher
With this money you can, in principle, more or less eat a week. Once it is very good to sit in the bar alone. Buy a game for the console. (But I do not play games, I just estimate the options for shopping for this amount)
Christopher Watson
Ok, come on. Where can you send?
Dylan Anderson
You can drop me your friend’s email address if you like, but it’s unlikely I’ll find any of the exact books you want. Also, I live in Kentucky
Julian Ortiz
And how the fact that you live in Kentucky, can affect the sending of books?
Dominic Thomas
Damn, sorry I couldn’t help being a non-russky though I feel an user’s need for physical books so I’ll do my part in keeping your thread alive
Chase Brooks
I apologize, confused you with another user. Sorry. So, most likely my friend will be in California.
Jacob Bell
Now here I sit, full of enthusiasm. I think it would be great if some kind of user could find a place where you can buy all the books I want, buy them, give it to me through my friend, a friend would pay him and then bring me these books and then I would create a thread, and show a cool friendship between Russian and American anons. And maybe even my friend would give the book of Dostoevsky or Platonov. Look, you love them here very much, like me. it would be great, oh
Joseph Collins
Great cover user, I just found a copy of storm and steel by penguin books, but it's a no cover copy, just the basic for 12$, I bought it, I just want to read this very bad haha
I understand, these penguins are some kind of monopolists in the publishing of books? Because I look they everywhere and everywhere, and motley books print. By the way, I also noticed a trend in you that books are being published for some reason, mostly in a soft form, and not in a hard title. Why is that?

Look, I have two friends in America right now. One in Rhode Island, the other in Massachusetts. Are there any anons, which of these states?
Yes I agree, they publish a lot so I think they are in the top in the English market, anyway I guess they are adopting some kind of minimalist printing because paperback wasn't enough, now it's paperback+pocket+no cover, that's sad imo

Penguin is a major publisher in the UK, US, and several other countries. It's considered one of the Big 5 English language publishers. Paperbacks (soft covers) are common because they're much cheaper to mass produce. Hardbacks are more expensive and they make more money per sale from them, since they often are listed anywhere from 20-35USD, compared to a new paperback book, which usually costs around 12-14USD.
Also I just finished reading Conspiracy Against the Human Race, so I can just mail that to you if you want. I don't really care about paying the international shipping cost.
Logan Smith
>Also I just finished reading Conspiracy Against the Human Race, so I can just mail that to you if you want. I don't really care about paying the international shipping cost. Mother of God, of course, I would be infinitely happy, user. That would be generous of you. But how can this be done?
Christopher Lopez
sad but it'd be cool if it made books cheaper. for example, if i read a 300p book in 2 days and most likely won't reread it, i'm not interested in blowing too much on it. (i'm russian as well) i've never bought a book over 5$, and most of them are hardcovers. yet i see american prices are like 10$ for a shit paperback, that's truly sad. it's like books are an expensive novelty again

I'll set up a throwaway email and we can handle the details there. Give me a moment please.

Second hand bookstores, library clearing sales, and sometimes online if they're something I wouldn't be able to find otherwise. I never shop at new bookstores, the prices are ridiculous.
Yes, there shouldn't be any problems messaging a gmail account.
You want them in used condition? Normal bookstores generally sell items even more expensive than Amazon, or equally as expensive.
Oliver Williams

You should buy the most expensive books available from American publishers. Whether or not you want to buy them.
