"Edda" is literally old norse for "a book".
Snorra-Edda (what the Anglos call "Poetic Edda") somehow becomes "the Edda" ("The book") in the tiny Anglo brain.
There are hundreds of eddas out there and Snorra Edda is one of them.

The Snorre-Edda (the "prose Edda") and the poetic Edda are completely different books, written centuries apart, for very different purposes. Edda meaning "book" is also not completely certain.
In any case, OP should read the poetic Edda.
