Yes, Mein Kampf is a notable one that will turn you into a drooling retard if you take it seriously.

The New Testament*

Yes, The Communist Manifesto is a notable one that will turn you into a drooling retard if you take it seriously.

Funny, I was about to say the same about Das Kapital... ;-)

In certain fashions, I suppose.

Will they cause mental illness by themselves? No. Can they push someone, who is already on a cliff with generic predisposition, over the edge? Plausible, though awkward to imagine.

As if Marxism and Nazism direct opposites.

Yes, Infinite Jest is a notable one that will turn you into a drooling retard if you take it seriously.

Yes, The Bible is a notable one that will turn you into a drooling retard if you take it seriously.

What if I wanted a mental illness? What would be good to read?

Mental illness
Really is just abnormal psychology
And on the path to enlightenment there will be information that can
Lie, decieve, lead astray and many of these ideas can be very tempting . Doubly so if someone isn't exactly in the best state of mind to encounter such information. The mind however is very resilient, which can be good, but also means that once a beliefs has fully blossomed as logos or daily practises, they are very very hard to unseat and dispell.
But it is still possible, time and focus seem to be the main factors in being able to remedy this.

But aside from that there is information that can cause someone to sink into deep depression
-learning of a loved ones passing
-coming to grips with some existential truths

It's can cause the tense and nervious energy to act
-business, carpe diem strike while iron is hot
-stage fright ,public speaking
-finding sex

Even to set you off into a paranoid psychosis
Sorta like Heisenberg principal

Some information can be so dire dreadful and grotesque that it even causes severe trauma, or PTSD.
-Like learning about past lives
-intersectional feminism

To note any literature that tends to deeply affect the psyche is called "subversive" unless it's a self help book in which case it's called "revolutionary".

No one is implying they are.

Looks like you are both right, Mein Kampf and Das Kapital can equally cause mental illness.

Glad that's settled.

Yes, Nietzsche actually became insane because he read too much Hölderlin, as attested in the Wagners' letters.

Yeah, don't read g/acc literature. You may develop gender dysphoria

>love how
please find another locution. frankly, “love how” indicates to me that you’re a degenerate

But Capital isn't a propaganda piece. Go for the Manifesto if you want to find a decent lefty equivalent. If he had said something by Dugin or Evola it might've been funny to compare them to Capital, but you really fudged it up. Read more, user.

If you read too much and sleep too little your brain can get so dry you can lose your wits. It's been known to happen.

I don't like it either but if you think a work that dense and long is meant as propaganda you're actually brain-damaged.

Dumb.
Peterson is harmless but most people he attracts are defective in the first place. Self help readers aren't losers because they read self help, they read self help because they're losers.

the absolute state of rightists

Yeah I became autistic by reading Joyce.

I became schizophrenic after reading C&P.

>Peterson is harmless
This is false because he intermingles his politics with his self help. If his self help advice ends up improving someone's life, this person is more likely to take everything Peterson says at face falue. In essence, they are brainwashed.
"I have stood up straight, cleaned my room, my life is good now. Perhaps Peterson's wild claims about ((post-modern neo-marxists))) are not crazy at all."

But the people who read his book are unimportant. They will never make any difference to this world. At worst they'll sit home and play videogames all day and at best they'll get to a cushy job so they can buy a nice car. Natural losers will always be acted on, never the actor.

They actually help people with mental illness. Reading literature helps with perspective and helps people empathize with others. They recomend people with depression read because it helps male them feel so not alone.

This desu

Shiros mental illness

PILLS ARE GOOD! PILLS ARE GOOOOOOOD!

This is true but inversely so for reading through all three volumes of Capital.

>he couldn't make it through the first three chapters of volume one

except sex

Like a dog that drools until no one will touch its toy.

I read a paper about boltzmann brains off Reddit on Reddit the other day. It had a trigger warning but I still unironically feel triggered by it. It mentioned the Nabokov story Ultima Thule so I read that too and now someone is following me.

Yes, hermeneutics are an example. People who think they can interpret the work disregarding the author have developed schizophrenia

What book will help me develop schizophrenia?

What book will help you develop schizophrenia?

What book will help us develop schizophrenia?

Pro Tip: Just take drugs and talk to a lot of people. Take so much drugs and drink so much alcohol until you start feeling very depressed and hearing voices, can't go outside anymore because you think someone would beat you up because you look like shit an acting like a weirdo. Quit your job, cry all day "mimimi why is this happening to me" and then start with the greeks and so on, etc. etc. Have fun.

This drug and party experience of failure gives you a whole other meaning btw. The effect is very intenese. This is how great books really get their value, take Meditations from Marc Aurel for example. I know it's boring for some people or it's just another book but forget these people.
If you were really lost, your soul dark and your heart cold (your apartment and your internet too btw), then you know that it's not just words written down. Then you can really appreciate certain works. You know, I am bored with most of the conversations on this thread because I have dealt with certain topics enough that I know why I am. I don't need nihilism or other bullshit. I don't need to discuss the same things every time over and over again that will not contribute anything in my life. I can understand why most of us are still on this board and have a weird way about them. Because they just do not want to believe it, that they fail and that little happens in their lives. Little happens in my life too at the moment but I know who I blame for that. It is solely up to me.

To be honest, I do not know who all the people on this board are here. But I can imagine that most of them still live in mamas basement.
But there are certainly people here who know exactly what I mean, I think. I'm 26 btw and I'm still unemployed.

Lately I've felt more in my own head and philosophical? Everything seems so deep to me and overwhelming. Any books to on this? I feel like I keep thinking and seeing so many different life possibilities that it's overwhelming ,me.

And to be honest I just can't deal with my mental illness anymore. I've been trying to get help from a psychologist the whole week but I still couldn't reach anyone by phone. Now I have to wait untily monday and try it again. I'm looking forward to the medication prescription , otherwise I can't do anything anymore, everything in my life slowly goes to shit if i let it slide that way any farther. I just wasting the most of my fucking time for nothing.

In grad school I read way too much Aleister Crowley and I got bipolar disorder and had to drop out.

Still one of my favorite songs of all time.

Don't think that you can handle the world if you know too much and have neglected other important things.
Reading books is like russian roulette.

explain user, how do you get out of that mode then

im

imagine thinking that a respectable 3 volume analysis of capitalist political economy is in any way comparable to an extended blog post about how jews are the reason everything is bad and Feels > Reals

You have to deal with the knowledge on an emotional level, that's the hardest thing. nobody should underestimate that. Imaging being very educated in your age and you can no longer handle the irresponsible behavior of others when you're still in school for example.
This can make you very depressed and can change your life forever, and you just wanted to be smarter than the others, you wanted to change yourself or just could not stand it anymore. But this will open a door to a whole new world that only exists in your head. Perception of reality is not a joke. And happiness is just a chemical reaction, when you fuck up you don't get the reward that makes you happy. When you can't take a simple joke anymore because you're smart, you will have a very hard time. Man there are so many things I could go on but I think that's enough for now.

When you have learned one thing, you must not forget that there is something else that you can not quite understand because you lack the experience. But some books make you trust them because they sound so logical and enticing. This is the dangerous especially when you are young.

user it's like you hit the nail right on the head. I guess my biggest problem is coming to terms with my new values.

I'm torn between being a degenerate or having values. It's causing me to worry over little aspects too much. Thanks for the post friend

Imagine thinking that reading a book means you agree with everything it contains.

>
Maybe you're a drooling retard because you're unable to take it seriously without breaking your own mind.

Who isnt a loser in your mind user?

damn it, i used to love this board, well, back to /fit/

Yes. Take any book and treat is as gospel because book = smart. You now have mental illness.
