Muhammad the most influential person in history

>list chosen from book ‘100 most influential people in the world‘

>He chose people on a ranking of who had done the most to influence the world

>As the author notes ‘Influential’ does not include a judgement on whether they influenced the world for the better or worse.

This book was published in 1978. In my HS world history class (2014) my teacher brought this out one day and let us discuss the listing.

What does Yea Forums think of this, who would you have put at the top?

>33.Alexander the Great
>34.Napoleon Bonaparte
I would've moved Alexander higher but that's me
haha

A lot of influential people are there because they're appropriately memed in society.
Some of the most truly influential people ever had almost no influence outside their little circle or country, during their lives. See Jesus, Confuscius, or Socrates.

so who's the biggest memed influence ?

I agree. No way would I put Alexander less influential than John Dalton or James Clerk Maxwell. Still a pretty good list though.

>no nietzsche
ugh

probably honestly. islam kicked off the renaissance, while christians were burning books muslims were revering knowledge.

Christians just burned books containing certainly sectarian theology. Although it is true Islam did not have an issue with extreme theological diversity, that is due to the simplicity of its orthodox creed

A lot of famous Americans fit the bill. Martin Luther King Jr. and Harriet Tubman are memed because the need to reinforce beliefs to the youth. A lot of Presidents were figureheads.
Other figures are big conquerors or leaders who didn't change the political world permanently, or only did so in a way that was already inevitable, but are """respected.""" See Gandhi. India was going to be independent from Britain, anyway. It was the fall of the Empire and WW2 that did that, but Gandhi is an important figurehead for pacifists and Indians who want a vision of a homegrown independence.
Pretty much any Democratic Egalitarian martyr type, who's remembered mainly through textbooks, is probably memed.
Truly influential people are those who changed whole cultures and beliefs, and that's not always a good thing. Religious founders and certain kinds of philosophers are the most influential, for this reason, for better or worse. And they're usually pretty politically powerless people, like Marx, Christ, or Confuscius.

I see your point, but ideas alone don't change the world. There must be 'great' people ex; Washington, Napoleon or Ho Chi Minh who act, gather support and influence the world around them based on those ideas. In the authors sense would a great person following those ideas not have more effect than the one who establishes that belief? They are the ones actually spreading and influencing others with it.

I don't think Einstein be that high desu

Exactly. Jesus was a virgin and Mohammed was a quarterfag who couldn’t keep his dick out of kids.

Judging who the most influential person is based on the size of the religion they started is a little subjective. If that were the case, Jesus and Muhammad would be neck and neck . Both religions are comparable in their historical influence and the absolute population size of their adherents.

Personally my bet is on someone most people have never heard of. His name is Norman Borlaug, an agricultural scientist who devised methods that made it possible to feed hundreds of millions of people. If you are reading this right now there is about a 1/8 chance you owe your life to him without knowing it.

Jesus Christ obviously.
Choosing Muhammad over Jesus is an obvious ideological bias.

Islam still lives whereas nationalism and liberalism have replaced Christianity.

Our own calendar mark this year like 2019 and no other thing because of Jesus. That alone prove that Jesus is more influential to the World than Muhammad.

sure thing Muhammad

Also since our 'time' is based around the death of Christ why did scientists change it from AD & BC to CE and BC/E Despite making the names non -religious, its still based on the Jesus's death

Attached: Holytxt.jpg (593x572, 269K)

Islamic calenders use different dating, but I was not saying Jesus, may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, was uninfluential per se, he was a very influential prophet and will return to lead the Ummah against the infidel. I just meant Christianity, invented by Paul, is dead

>time' is based around the death of Christ
Birth

Both kinda BC = before Christ
AD = After death

>AD = After death
lmao

Also every christ-chan poster should be shot, so fucking cringeworthy

no u

Lets stop big dicking between Christianity and Islam because that will ultimately get us nowhere.
If the book was re-written on its 100 year anniversary, 2078, how drastically would it change?

You could make an argument for Columbus

>AD = After death
>the absolute state of deus vultures

We have copies of less than 10% of books written in Antiquity, and a lot of that is due to Christians coming to power.

Greeks fleeing the sacking of Constantinople started the Renaissance

t. Went to school post 911 and had a liberal teacher with an axe to grind

Grow up fag. Muslims has a decent run but it was brief and has no chance of returning considering they have more money than anyone from oil and still buy F1 races and bait from western manufacturers

Gutenberg.

The answer is clearly Abraham. The three Abrahamic religions are today the only meaningful religions in world politics, and nothing which has stood in their way has survived.

>massivly increased the population of the poorest parts of the world

bravo norman. you fucked us all.
