>i am the sun (son) >and the air (heir) >of a shyness that is criminally vulgar
are there any poems that use this technique where they use words to mean one thing at first, but then recontextualise them to mean another in the subsequent lines?
isn't that where you do the double meaning with all it's implications at first, rather than revealing it later? and isn't it necessarily bawdy as opposed to my example?
Alexander Gutierrez
I wish that was a boy
Adrian Taylor
It's not necessarily bawdy, though it often(usually?) is. I'm not sure about your 'revealed after' qualification though, maybe that is its own literary device.
Camden Smith
yeah i am specifically interested in words that mean one thing and you read/hear them in that way but then a later line makes you realise they meant something else
Christopher Carter
Kurt Cobain does it all the time
Luis Bell
>I am human and I need to be loved >Just like everybody else does
i'm more interested in if this is a thing in literature though, though i could see how it can work better in song because of the ambiguity of spoken word rather than text
Camden Hernandez
A lot of rappers, too, but in their case it's usually just a vulgar boast of some sort. >There's too much at stake and to find someone this raw on a beat is rare
If you must write prose and poems The words you use should be your own Don't plagiarise or take "on loan"
Brayden Powell
Holy shit who's that
Henry Richardson
>They start acting BACKWARDS, so watch what I say next
>They SLIP UP >As PUPILS >Eat DESSERTS >When they're STRESSED >Because they LIVED >With the DEVIL
>Hope you caught what I said.
Christopher Ortiz

>do you like penis a lotta? I mean pina coladas/ I’m sorry girl, it’s hard... to think!
Gavin Jackson
How do they mean "son" and "air" only subsequently? It's not like beforehand he rattles off alot of nature metaphors. You just take them to have the new agey astrology aura because you're flighty.
Christian Allen
...and "heir"*
