Both books mentioned are coincidentally by Samuel Butler, the translator or this version of the Odyssey. He was something of a semi-professional scholar of Homer in addition to novelist. Very popular in his era (the Victorian) but little remembered now.

This is bad and you should read the new translation by Caroline Alexander. None of the other translations were made by a woman so they can't give you a critical perspective on Homer's misogyny.
