Is nihilism immaturity of the mind or rather the true wisdom? Are doomers just lacking the mental capacity to see the sum total of good in the world or are we all doomed?
Is nihilism immaturity of the mind or rather the true wisdom...
Edgy teenagers.
Yes, nihilism is first step.
Read ecclesiastes. You will understand step number two.
That comic is funny and comedy refutes nihilism.
>doomers
Why are you faggots coming up with even dumber variations of the boomer/zoomer meme?
nihilism is a reasonable perspective, nihlism of the sort 'we are biological automatons that exist by absurd accident and morality, meaning etc. are memes'
It's not necessarily true but it makes sense
Why would someone voluntarily become a nihilist? It makes no sense. Nihilists are just like
>HURR LIFE IS SUFFERING BUT RECOMMEND ME BOOKS THAT CONFORM TO MY VIEWS SO I CAM BECOME EVEN MORE DEPRESSED
Nihilism, in regards to one's psychology, is a suppression of the intuitions of beauty and good; depriving one of their purpose in this world.
You mean physics, chemistry and biology textbooks?
Passive nihilism = Immaturity
Active nihilism = Wisdom
Immaturity, absolutely, but a necessary step for the building of a sober view of the world, our role in this world and how we can build ourselves as objects of value
In one word, the adolescence of the thought
the meaningless of the world is a fact, not an opinion. But constantly dwelling on it is an issue.
but that is five words
active nihilism = faggotry
Nihilism is immaturity of the mind. Existentialism is even worse. It's a step backward as it's wilful self-delusion.
>but that is five words
b-but Dostoievski talked like t-that in his books.......that's not fair..
just write it like this in the future
>In one word, the-adolescence-of-the-thought
Nihilism is the fundamental problem, the perspective that any truly curious mind will venture into at some point. It is not a place to wallow, and most healthy people actually cannot sit in it for long. 15 minutes go by and you find yourself some new distraction and forget about your little melodramatic depressed episode. It's easy to put off "nihilism" this way, but the challenge is to conquer it, which may have as base an answer as "it's up to you to figure out how to do so."
Any attempt at a universal prescription against it very quickly runs into a circular conversation so well-worn it's become a canyon.
One answer to nihilism, then, may simply be to not be too curious. Keep your nose to the dirt, don't try to zoom out to much. You are not a zoomed-out creature. There's nothing in that perspective for you. What can nourish you is figuring out how to act under the constraints you find yourself with to maximize whatever you wish, as "insignificant" as you like.
The conversation gets too tired too quickly now. Maybe the real answer is "stop being a faggot"
What's the difference between nihilism and fatalism?
based
Nihilism and the boomers mindset is a result of being too educated on the current state of the world, while being uneducated or too weak on your place on it. Both of them are too comfortable and retreat into depression instead of acknowledging that they are alive and attempting to actualize the world that they want
They have nothing in common. There have been plenty of fatalistic non-nihilistic worldviews (usually religious ones).
>your place on it.
powerless serfs? And fuck even if you're a world leader you can't really control what's going to happen globally, the processes are outside anyone's control
Nihilism is the result of concerning yourself with things that are not within your own control. It creates an existential anxiety about the overall goings-on the world because doomers are so connected to the internet.
The solution is to focus on things that are in your control and find a deeper meaning in life by acquiring skills and finding new ways to create and express.
Fuck statistics, fuck the facts, fuck what your neighbor's doing, fuck how someone else got successful. Except your own limitations, work to overcome them and to better your life.
I think he means you can control your immediate surroundings to some degree in most cases.
Is this the way you see life? The ability to make decisions on behalf of many defines power? & those who can't make a difference in the lives of others are powerless?
You are powerless because you can't even change your life. How do you expect others to trust you enough to cede decision making powers to you?
>The solution is to focus on things that are in your control and find a deeper meaning in life by acquiring skills and finding new ways to create and express.
>The solution is to focus on things that are in your control
Correct
>and find a deeper meaning in life by acquiring skills and finding new ways to create and express.
Wrong. That's existentialism which is pants on head retarded. You can't "find deeper meaning". Realistically, you can only distract yourself waiting for death.
oh no the materialist atheists are here
>You can't "find deeper meaning". Realistically, you can only distract yourself waiting for death.
Speaking of "pants on head retarded"...
this is your fear of death talking more than anything
One thing I don't understand is why nihilism (not depression, which may be one emotional response to it) is almost never encountered or explicitly discussed in movies, mainstream media, and generally art. One has to dig into higher art/philosophy forms to find it. It's like civilization is in constant denial and makes massive uses of psychological defenses of removal. But why can't there be a more open discussion? Why can't there be an all human meaning to life that is born from the ashes of nihilism?
Lmao speak for yourself faggot. Imagine being an American
Because existentialism > nihilism
>Why can't there be an all human meaning to life that is born from the ashes of nihilism?
Because there simply can't be one short of God revealing himself to us or something similar. Therefore there is no point in worrying about that.
synecdoche new york seemed like it was about nihilism but Im not sure because I only watched it once. did not enjoy that movie
You missed the
>all human
I mean, a final widespread acceptance that lets us take our mortality seriously and build a morality, ethics, and life meaning from it. No need for God. The Greeks did it. The Greeks called themselves "mortals" (βροτός) and never ἄνθρωπος or ἀνήρ, which means man, human. They had a deeply embedded self knowledge of what man was. Why can't we forget the lies of Christianity and religion and become a secular race.
All being meaningless does not equal all being hopeless. Its just a way of putting this in their correct perspective. All humans exist in a very limited space and from a cosmological perspective the whole human race stays motionless in respect to the vast distances of nothing that surround us. Its a logical conclusion that this passing phenomena we experience as "life" or in being (dasein) ultimately born out of pure chance is void of any meaning more than the meta relation of man to himself.
Well you just asked why there can't be an all-human meaning to life and i just agreed. There can't be one. As to the why it's hard to tell. Perhaps something hardwired in us.
>that pic
Since when is Nihilism Apatheism?
(Both suck, just saying though)
:3
The true wisdom lies in the realization that life doesn't require a meaning, whether it has one or not. The part of your brain that craves purpose is an evolutionary newcomer, shaped by environmental pressure out of the necessity of forethought and long-term planning skills. Our obsession with finding the "meaning of life" is little more than an inconvenient side effect of our ancestors benefiting from worrying about their crops surviving winter.
Perhaps a day will dawn when man won't care why he lives but only how.
