He did, but that was his attempt to explain why the "mind virus" took over Europe. The reason why paganism was incorporated into Christianity (specifically Catholicism and Orthodox, don't know what he has to say about Protestantism) is to trick pagan Europeans into adopting it. He wasn't subtly hinting about his beliefs, he was doing damage control.

Yeah he got a pretty rough sentence. I wouldn't mind being in prison for a couple years for man slaughter, which is what I guess he was excpecting, but after stabbing him a bunch of times it didn't look that way to the investigators anymore, but murder. Obviously it was really stupid to do handle it that way, but not immoral. The moral of the story is: STOP getting caught.
