Zizek agrees Marx was idealistic, but Marx wrote 80% of his writing on capitalism not socialism and certainly not communism. A Marxist return to Hegel is what Zizek has been arguing for since the 80's, this isn't something new.

Its part of his strategy. He has no real desire to understand that material for the purpose of discussing it. If he did, he'd actually have to discuss Marxism as it is, or postmodernism as it is, and not as right-wing ideologues represent it.
