Don't remind me of the fact that I probably have a few lines on the topic of EVA in my notebooks, because I don't want to face the fact.
Though I do have the ink and the brush on hand to censor it.

As someone who usually likes "classic" anime, this one really confuses me. How do you care about these characters? Why are they always whining about shit?

I wanna write a high-quality fanfiction novel on the life of Ryoji Kaji
Try watching the whole fucking thing instead of just watching a bit of EoE (literally the last episode) with zero context
Step aside.

>>it's a 50/50 mix of robots fighting and teenage melodrama
This is most of it. NGE is fun and has a lot of great visuals but if it's any kind of masterpiece, it's a masterpiece of bad taste. Dialogue is overburdened with plotty exposition and meaningless scientific-technological bogosity; the poetic and philosophical elements are pseudo poetic and pseudo philosophical. The emotional core of the show is wish-fulfillment fantasy and adolescent melodrama.
I like the show, but it’s ridiculous to hold it up as some kind of work of genius. Most of the super fans are young so that can be forgiven, but if you're THAT attached to it beyond a certain age, like women in their early thirties whose favourite book is Harry Potter, you need to improve your mind and grow up. Don't (You) me.

I do agree with this criticism; rewatching this show multiple times it was always the part that made me cringe. Like, that's not how any computer system would work at all. The yelling about exaggerated made-up computer errors just sounds retarded. I know it's not that important in the grand scheme of things, but it's still a blemish.
