Reddit prose is a very real phenomenon. On Yea Forums you only had trendy vernacular like what you've posted, but with redditors the way they structure their sentences and convey their ideas is uniform. The only way I can describe it is that they write like frustrated sissyfags. They have a swarmy, passive aggressive tone and are overly "nice"

iktf. The vast majority of the authors I read lived in mid-1800s to mid-1900s. The couple of modern authors I read sound like they have ADHD, they use more train-of-thought (and poorly. Salinger did it right in CitR to create a strong voice for Holden, contributing to his character and filling out the story's background in a way that avoided info dumping or leaving the present train of events. Modern authors don't understand what he did, and it just sounds like they're jacking themselves off), they'll also namedrop more places, people, groups, and especially material possessions. Characters are shallower and defined more by their actions and affiliations and less by their dispositions and inner nature. Needless to say anything involving sex is not only overused but poorly incorporated, like the author is just so proud someone sucked his pee-pee that he has to brag about it.
To summarize, modern authors are materialistic egotists, older authors had a more introspective, calm nature where they would sit and actually look at the world around them. Modern authors don't actually look at anything, they reconstruct every superficial detail and miss the point entirely. By trying to hard to appear clever they reveal there's absolutely nothing ticking along under the surface.
