Pack it up boys we're done
is there any real value in getting a Yea Forums approved translation of a book, outside of religious works?
say, for example, The Divine Comedy, Plato's works and Meditations?
I dont know about the lit approved ones, since English isnt my native language, but the translation quality of greek philosophy is pretty important, since inconsistent translations can result in different propositions. Try looking for a version that is as transparent as possible about their translation method, for example by mentioning the original greek word in the footnotes or something.
Moby Dick and Gravity's Rainbow are really fun though.
For what purpose? Why must we incessantly post and repost and create and recreate charts and cart threads? To what end, sir?

Planning on finishing Walden either today or tomorrow, it's very comfy.
Any books with depressed and/or suicidal protags? Other than the obvious.
any charts on investing and/or the stock market?
Speaking of escaping society, is there any way of actually doing so for a limited period of time?
I was thinking about trying a month long hermitage, bringing my books with me and doing nothing but reading and having long walks in the nature. To be more precise, I'm not so much interested in the how but in the where, as in where could I go? Do I need to rent an isolated mountain home?
Based.
This might actually be the first chart I follow.
Interested in this, too.
Pull a Christopher McCandless, you'll be idolized by thousands of retarded teenagers.
Nah, I only want to escape society for a while, nothing too extreme or idealistic, just a quick break from the stream of life.
what's the problem exactly? it's clearly the best from a literary standpoint

What about the other books? Franz kafka is real... Or maybe not?
that's the joke; a few of the books on the chart are real to throw you off even further
LOTR is real world history book tho.
Quick question here, i just started to reading Dostoyevsky by "Notes from Underground". Is it, like, "wrong"?

yea
it should be "Notes from Underground" by Dostoyevsky
>putting Nietzche and Ayn Rand with meme 2000s atheists
Say what you want about the former but at least they acknowledged that humanism is largely unnecessary with atheism.
Did your mom read you that book when you were a kid too, user? :)
Didn't hear about the Love You Forever book before this. Kind of depressing considering the shit I put my parents through via my autism. Trying to do better by them.

The Odyssey is nothing compared to Iliad.
Maybe a meditation retreat?
if you want shock fetishism, there's so many other anime/manga to consume instead. I mean seriously now, Elfen Lied came out first, people were already making disgusting anime for shock value, and you can't call the entire thing pure shock value when act 3 exists. anyone who's read act 3 can see tha-

I’m working through A Poet’s Guide to Poetry. Has about 300-400 pages of lessons, a chunk of exercises, and a glossary at the end, plus a list of work for further reading. Covers Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, Yeats, etc, and some contemporary authors too. Good book.

I like this because you get to skip the republic.
There is also this version

It feels like whoever made it was really scratching the bottom of the barrel for literally all clearly non-Tolkien-inspired "fantasy" lit he could think of, up to and including mythological texts, no less than 3 arthurian works, plays with fantastical elements, Weird Fiction and shit that's barely even fantasy

What the hell is this? The complete works of Plato plus two more books by Plato that you just read. Now the same for Aristotle. Then Epicurus then Descartes. Sure nothing happened in 2000 years but some guys in a garden making lucky guesses about physics. I want even going to look at the rest but I couldn't help but notice a bunch of outdated books on psychology for some reason. Also barely any description or organization. I assume tree next one is just as bad.
This chart gives a bad name to the whole idea of Yea Forums charts. Do not post it again.

I honestly haven't read much uplifting literature. Any recs?
not sure I see how these books are related. What does "Exposing the Counter-tradition" mean?
lol
I'm reading Creative and Critical Thinking right now. I want to say it's really altered the way I view problems.
Another book to consider is Thinking, Fast and Slow.
So is the counter tradition spiritual/metaphysical lit? By "exposing" I would imagine the works are skeptical of this counter tradition, but I don't guenon is that at all.
I usually ask for an anthropology chart in these threads but I'll ask something a bit different today - can anyone recommend me some books on the dawn of humanity? The extinction of Neanderthals, the rise of the Homo Sapiens, how early tribes were formed (if that's a good way of saying it), stuff like that. Thanks in advance.
The point propably isn't to criticize heresy but to trace the workings of a malignant supernatural force behind the state of things. Such a list could include works in support of this movement and works exposing it. Didn't make the list, it's just my interpretation. I'm not interested in the occult desu.
God she looks beautiful in this shot.

Any charts on brazilian literature or/and latin american lit in general? What do you guys read in school? (country: book1, book2, book3, etc)
There's one in the thread and I think there was a latin american general as well.

Sorry I know a latin language so I can read all of them by default
It's a children's book but no other series gives me so much nostalgia. The first and the second are good. There is a very anti-religious tone through the whole series. It's not comparable to Lord of the Rings though. I'm not entirely sure what that chart is trying to say though.
>I know central american spanish so I have no problem reading medieval tuscan
Lol wut, that's like saying you can read ancient cantonese monk scrolls because you're fluent in korean
Nigger wtf are you on. I speak italian and latin and even I can barely understand original dante comedy texts
fucking plebs not speaking renaissance era florentinian
Do they really not teach americans all the Italo-Dalmatian languages? I thought it was just a meme. Fucking kek at burgertards
Why is The Hero with a Thousand Faces midwit core?
Too popular I suppose.
>I speak italian and latin and even I can barely understand original dante comedy texts
Literally how
I know portuguese and spanish and I can read them fine, rarely checking for the definition of some word or another
I thought the vow of silence thing was largely a meme? Not trying to be confrontational at all, just genuinely curious about this
I didn't realize Christopher Hitchens had children
>reading Italian and Latin using only Spanish and Muslim Spanish
literally how
Not sure if all of them do it. But some do. I mean it isn't forever, you can talk when you leave. But it's not a hotel. You get a loaf of bread, a chunk of cheese, and a whole lot of time to contemplate alone. The one I know about is deep in the woods in Minnesota. Beds in the summer might be full. But it's easy to get in during winter.
I think you guys are thinking of the Trappists. Their code requires them to take in guests and give them room and board. You usually have to "reserve" a cell online or on the phone, but once you're there it's... free room and board. I stayed in a Trappist monastery in Kentucky (Our Lady of Gethsemane because of Thomas Merton) and they had a code of silence, three meals a day, etc. Ask me shit about it if you're interested. I stayed for about a week.
Also I don't know about all of them but we were fed actual meals and shit, not "bread and cheese." It was really nice. I rec it to anyone who has the time. Most of their monasteries are out in the middle of fucking nowhere though so be prepared to drive.
Been looking for a guide like this, thanks user
dude you got BTFO'd, just face it and stop pretending like you can read archaic dialects of languages that have the same ancient base as yours. No one believes you. Just like no one would believe me if I said I could read the original Beowulf scripts just because I know german and english. A basic google search shows that most translations literally required years of linguistics study into 12th-14th century tuscan/florentino. And it takes about 0 sense to understand that you're a massive faggot for even trying to claim you can read medieval tuscan just by knowing modern spanish.
is the code of silence thing a meme or are they actually silent
My friend goes once a year, so I'm going on what he's said. Bread, cheese and no talking. Also something about don't let your ass freeze to the seat in the outhouse because you may be there a while. That might be a joke, but silence was definitely the case.
Huh. Weird. We got simple meals. Nothing fancy but it was more than bread and cheese. They did make bread in the monastery though. The one in Kentucky had indoor plumbing and each cell had its own bathroom + along with a hall bathroom. The silence thing isn't a meme, you're not allowed to talk on monastery grounds. You can sing if you attend their services though, they hold 6 a day starting around 4 AM.

Nigga I can tell you are the same guy you just posted another pokemon reaction image, stop prentending I got "BTFO'd" by someone else
And why are you so mad anyway? "No one believes you" - there was like 3 guys in this conversation at most. I'm telling the truth what can I say. You want me to lie to you and said I'm having a hard time with the Comedy when I'm not? Like I said, sometimes I get confused on the meaning of something and I check the definition of something or other but generally yeah it's like I said, I picked it up and I could fucking read the thing. I can read regular modern Italian just fine. I'm sorry it makes you seethe this hard what do you want me to do
>I can tell you are the same guy you just posted another pokemon reaction image
Wow quite the 200IQ master detective you are aren't you? I was never pretending I wasn't you autistic sperg, which should be clear by me being the only one using pokemon in all my posts.
You getting called out on your bullshit by like 3 other dudes was what I was referring to by getting btfo'd. You're objectively not telling the truth though, you just keep ignoring all my points about how inane it is to think someone could read 14th century truscan just because they know portuguese. I wouldn't even have believed you if you said you knew modern italian, because I do, and the comedy to modern italian is essentially on the same level as beowulf to modern english.
You're basically saying you can read Beowulf because you know gaelic, if you want idea of how fundamentally retarded you sound
