why don't you read it and THEN come back with a hot take.

Will do

a man that's slightly on in a world that's slightly off

It's not that good but it's not terrible either. If your dad says you should read it, then do it, that way you can talk about it with him

Can't tell if contrarian and meaningless or insightful

Its a coming of age story but the dude is old and he slams young ass.

Classic boomercore literature.

Any chart on boomercore lit?

How does this book compare to Demian? I like Demian a lot

I thought it was a story about taking LSD. It didn't really make much sense

Just read it, you're in for a treat.

Steppenwolf is my favorite book and I think was more insightful than Demian, but that said Demian is more relatable (and also more accessible, even though it's less popular).

It's not good at all

>what should I expect ?

My impression is the sort of people who make meme charts aren't well-read enough to accurately pin the boomer meme to real pieces of written work.

I vote 'mildly insightful, but made to seem more so by neat phrasing'

It's a story about a man living in the past wanting to be a part of the modern society, but not wanting to drop his bad habits.

The book wants to show a modern man's struggle, instead it explains the rise of national socialism in Germany.

a nihilist flirting with becoming a hippy
it's not bad, but its message is not very timely post-1968

neither of these things...

It´s Faust without verse or mephisto
also, see

I read it recently, I enjoyed it. It inspired me to draw some shit ms paint.

My view of the main character changed quite a lot throughout the eary pages of the book.

The ending is interesting, Hermen said a lot of old people misunderstood the point of the book, which clears up my interpretation of the ending a bit. Remebering the introduction also helps clear it up though I think.
