as an archaeologist, this shit makes me upset. Every god damn time a European country boasts about their "beautiful stone churches" it's just reclaimed stone from roman ruins that were almost certainly a thousand times more beautiful and architecturally impressive. Medieval European churches are like when a kid tears apart a beautiful lego sculpture and builds a shitty space ship out of random pieces.
