Try different Bible versions.

I’d be interested to see Ulysses. I wonder if you could see distinct changes as the style changes from chapter to chapter

Compare:

Against the Day
Infinite Jest
Gravity's Rainbow
The Odyssey (Fagles)

Ulysses

I’ve always thought that Inifnite Jest isn’t difficult, just long so I’d be interested to see how that matches up.

Odyssey, but compare

Fagles:

Plus the Lattimore and Emily Wilson translations if you can find them

pic, the lack of punctuation later on screws with the formula
will do, but it'll take time

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 139K)

that's just based on average word length and sentence length. it's only a rough indicator for difficulty and couldn't account for things such as the benji chapter in the sound and the fury because its difficulty doesn't stem from big words and long sentences.

>Things fall apart that easy to read
unga bunga

see for instance. the formula is pretty much useless when applied to literature. it says that most of ulysses is 'Very easy to read. Easily understood by an average 11-year-old student.'

>That smooth dip in the beginning

Joyce BTFO.

Please do Plato's Republic, The Symposium, Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit, Marx's Das Kapital :')

Attached: throw me some numbers.jpg (480x360, 13K)

can you explain how this is done? how can i measure it myself?

user here, also try different Plato The Republic versions (Bloom, Reeve, Jowett...)

i agree, it's definitely not very useful for things like joyce
using a Python script

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 249K)

>using a Python script
can you share?

do this and
>stick to Philosophical works perhaps:
Wittgenstien - TLP/PU
Heidegger - Being and time
P.F. Strwason - Individuals
Fanged Noumena - Land

Now this is I didn't expect. I figured IJ would be the easiest of the bunch and GR the hardest.

But I guess this script can't really take into account the lucidity of what is being said, just its shape.

just curious, here are some benchmarks I'd like you to try

Phenomenology of Spirit by GWF Hegel
Being and Time by Martin Heidegger
Problems of Philosophy by Bertrand Russell
Adios America by Ann Coulter

c'mon you gotta do finnegans wake even if it's not that good for this

pic
i'd rather not

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 295K)

Now I’m not sure it will work with Land, considering that at least one chapter is all pic related

Do
Process and Reality
Being and Time
A Thousand Plateaus

Could it be that it's the dialogue what's dragging all the novels down? Because I tried it with a random English essay I wrote in tenth grade (I'm ESL) and it tells me it's almost twice as hard as Ulysses

Try any Thomas Bernhard novel, he should have a negative score

wtf

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 209K)

>i'd rather not
how come user?

this is completely useless

Attached: Finnegans Wake.png (2800x1752, 140K)

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 131K)

i'm tired, please post links to pdfs if you want graphs

Make it into a hosted form user, that only accepts text formats and spits out graphs, and each cycle adds to a csv of txtfilename and hash.

Later visitors can just try hash.png for a pdf they have on their computers, or search the named list graphfile.

Hash is important agaist trolls who will send aliceinwland renamed as some hengel shit

Thank you for the effort, user. Have blessed day mate.

It’s interesting that there is a lot tighter grouping among the Plato translations than among the Homer ones.

Also it makes sense that the Bloom Plato is apart from the other two because it intentionally tried to be hyper literal, at the expense of good style, while the other two both tried a more balanced approach.

Can u add the WHD rouse version

can you do kant in german, its pretty atrocious to read style wise

>its pretty atrocious to read style wise
low iq non german detected

Im german and I understand him, the man just cant write

The formula has to be modified for other languages, i read something about that on de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesbarkeitsindex
but german wiki seems to be protesting right now
i would, but i can't find it online

Attached: linegraph.png (2800x1752, 258K)
