We have created an artificial environment that can only subsist so long as we maintain it. Women do not seem to even suspect such a thing.

Women seem to live in some strange oblivion that rejects actual adulthood (I don't think many women ever really understand what being an adult means--even my mother, at nearly 60, betrays a sort of childish flippancy in so many things). A the sort of hazy self-obsession that spoiled children exhibit. A maddening cognitive dissonance wherein they believe themselves superior to all calamity and rules, while simultaneously terrified of almost everything (walking to their car alone at night, where the masquerade comes crashing down and reality asserts itself in a way that cannot be obliterated by binge-watching Netflix shows and liking the latest politically-charged and ideologically approved tweet made by celebrity #3452)
