Stack Thread

Didn't see one of these threads up. Got this stack for five dollars, all together. How did I do? I'm a total newbie to poetry, so those three poetry books are basically going to be my intro into the genre. Anyone read Parade's End before? Thoughts? Unrelated to stack, but my current reading is 2666.

The Edmund Wilson is such a delight to go through. Up there with Auden as far as critics go.

OP here, also anyone have any opinion on the Alexandria Quartet (forget author's name) and Hard Times by Dickens? I chose not to get those, but if you guys think they're any good I might go back today and buy them.

Dickens is nice

>Alexandria Quartet
God, yeah i've read it, well some of it; it was maybe a mistake to read it right after Anthony Powell but it's reputation is so enormous that i just bought the whole set without reading any of it beforehand.

Sorry to say it, but, It's a dull turd.

I would go back for the Alexandria Quartet. Leave the Dickens. Not one of his best efforts.

Would you recommend Anthony Powell?

Oh and another mistake i just remembered was C. P. Snow's Corridors of Power,. Dull, but at least i had forewarning on that one.

Still, There was a time when you weren't considered 'literary' if you hadn't read these.

Yes.

It's may be cliche now to compare Dance to the Music of Time to Proust but it's wholly justified. The depth of feeling there is in parts just as complex

Thanks. The back cover of the Dickes said as much, itself, which is why I didn't get it.

I want to read Tropic of Cancer.

just bough it a couple days ago, want to read it soon
it was 400rub (6.20$) but i bought some other books and the seller gave it for 300

Ford Madox Ford is a good choice

I don't see Waugh get enough love around here so I added it to my stack even though I bought it a while ago. Did you like Waugh Abroad?

Lincoln by Gore Vidal

post some stacks, you fags

Make me, fag.

I don't want to force you. It has to be completely voluntary. I respect your independence and freedom of expression. Please post a stack, but only if you really want to.

Be gentle.

Extremely reddit. I suspect this post is a joke. Repost the stack with a timestamp and rearrange the books to prove this is real

It's real.

cool stack bro. what are you reading first?

Ok, well enjoy i guess. What are you currently reading?

I'm finishing up Astrophysics. From there I'm not sure. It's clear I've made poor choices.

What do when the only people in your area who read are middle class and poor housewives so the second hand market is shit tier poetry and romance 'novels'?

Don't care what they say, a lot of those books are really enjoyable.

Metamorphosis and Animal Farm are currently my favorites out of what I've read so far. They were very enjoyable.

Well this board generally regards Kafka very highly, except for that one poster that's obsessed with the fact that Kafka is Jewish, so you're off to a good start.

Yes, I AM a hippie.

love in cholera's times

i'm just getting into Yea Forums.

meh 70% of that looks worth reading to me. I'd probably drop some of the longer Lenin works unless you're really game for them and probably skip the Nietzsche, Carlson, Milo.

The rest is just comfy lit no?

These just arrived with the mail.

Someone know a good site to get cheap philosophy books if you are in central or east europe and dont have accept to good stores? Amazon is too expensive in delivery fees and local books stores are shit. I was using wordery and bookdepository but those are not cheap at all. It seems used books of any worth are not attainable if you are not in west or america.

That's not your stack big guy

The most obvious answer is to just pirate them. I guess you could also ask local bookstores to get them for you, they should not have any problems with delivery fees.

you can also try abebooks.com there are many international sellers. and aside from some portion going to the website, you are supporting small businesses. I get many of my books on there.

Gotta flex that shit wherever you go

Then what am I supposed to fap to?

Anyway, make sure you check out 100 Years of Solitude if you enjoy Love in the Time of Cholera. Then keep exploring South American literature, it's great.

Yes, that's right.

>buying books
>not having access to a library
>reading more than one book at a time
shig the dig

No one is stopping you from posting your library stack.

>not buying every book someone recommends and putting it on your bookshelf to read when the times right.
>not having books to pass down to your children and friends
