>who is the literary equivalent of doom?
Well, let's see. Nietzschean themes and popular with hipsters. I'd say, Rainer Maria Rilke

Hm. In a way the rapper does have a bit more tools to their trade.
While both are communicating in plain language, and playing as they do with both rhythm and rhyme, the performing rapper can toy with odd accents and pronunciations, unlike the poet,. Of course the poet can utilize odd spelling when writing, or use some sort of special notation intended to convey unusual emphasis or spelling. At that point they do seem to shift into the world of rap and the art of performance, rather than traditional written poetry.

But what do I know? I can't even recommend anything to read on this subject.
Interesting topic, still.

Fucking poetic.

>mozart made a song about shitting and farting therefore he wasn't a musician

Rap, generally speaking, is pathetic

The medium if rap necessitates an illiterate atmosphere i.e. one devoid of tradition, which is analogous to ballads. Therefore, rap has lesser "tools" that poetry and will never grow out of a mere craft and into an art.
Pronunciation is nothing compared to what "traditional" poetry can achive. However, rap isn't useless or meaningless but it is and will always be lesser. The public attempting to elivate rap into art poetry is simply a demonstration of public's ignorance.

so is everything.

Not all rap is poetry, not all poetry is rap.

>the poet can ... use some sort of special notation intended to convey unusual emphasis
Accent marks are far from unusual
>but what do I know?
Apparently nothing

rap literally means "rhythm and poetry". Anybody who comes up with an excuse to exclude rap lyrics from the category of "poetry" is just doing so to sustain their self-important sense of pretentious elitism. I'm not a big fan of rap but the question itself is kind of dumb.

incorrect, it's the onomatopoeia for the sound of the electronic backing track, what are you a white man?

so fucking wrong. let me spell this out for you, dipshit:

Rap illiteracy, the need for the absence of air, traditional atmosphere
Poetry "You can customize". But the tail has no lead wave, or language, but it's always a change.
also
>The public attempting to elivate rap into art poetry is simply a demonstration of public's ignorance.

A person trying to try poetry poetry is not a general opinion.

i guess in a formal sense, yes, rap is poetry, but desu, they simply can't be compared. rap isn't good outside of its context. i'd say it's not a issue, you won't see a poet as cool as doom. madvillainy is a fantastic album tbqh, poetry may be richer but you won't find a poem as nice (aesthetically) as Raid, Rainbows or America's Most Blunted

>"rap is just like, the new poetry" says the retarded American who has literally never opened a book of poems and even if he had would be stumped without a repetitive drum beat to jumpstart his nigger co-opted heart

>plain language
Have you never read a complex poem or are you an American niggerfiend?

Only Aesop Rock.

Yo, yo, yo, y'all can't stand right here
In his right hand was your man's worst nightmare
Loud enough to burst his right eardrum close-range
The game is not only dangerous, but it's most strange
I sell rhymes like dimes
The one who mostly keep cash but brag about the broker times
Joker rhymes, like the "Is you just happy to see me?" trick
Classical slap-stick rappers need Chapstick
A lot of 'em sound like they in a talent show
So I give 'em something to remember, like the Alamo
Tally-ho! A high Joker like Spades game
Came back from five year layin' and stayed the same
Sayin' - electromagnetic feeling blocks all logic, Spock
And G- shocks her biological clock
When I hit it, slit her to the shitter, thought I killed her goose
Her Power-Use was pure Brita water, filtered juice
Keep a pen like a fiend keep a pipe wit' 'im
Gentleman who lent a pen to a friend who write wit' 'im
Never seen the shit again, but he's still my dunny
Only thing that come between us is krill and money
I sell rhymes like dimes
The one who mostly keep cash but brag about the broker times
Better rhymes make for better songs, and that is not
If you got a lot of what it takes just to get along
Surrender now or suffer serious setbacks
Got get-back, connects wet-back, get stacks
Even if you gots to get jet-black, head to toe
To get the dough, battle for bottles of Mo' or 'dro
This rhyme flow take practice like Tae Bo
With Billy Blanks
"Oh, you're too kind!" "Really? Thanks."
To the gone and lost forever like "O My Darling Clementine"
He hold his heart when he tellin' rhymes
When it's his time, I hope his soul go to Heaven
He's nasty like the old time Old Number Seven
You still taste it when you chase it with the Coca-Cola
Make you wish they coulda erased out the Motorola
I told her - no credit for it back
If you want what they got, then go get it, it's all gak
Only in America could you find a way to make a healthy buck
And still keep your attitude on self-destruct
I sell rhymes like dimes
The one who mostly keep cash, but tell about the broke times
Joker rhymes, like the "Is you just happy to see me?" trick

Damn the villain really killed that one

Flash that buttery gold, jittery zeitgeist
Wither by the watering hole, what a patrol
What are we, to heart huckabee, art fuckery suddenly?
Not enough young in his lung for the water wing
Colorfully vulgar poacher at a mulch like
'Ima pull the pulse out a soldier and bolt.' (Fine)
Sign of the time we elapsed
When a primate climb up the spine and attach
Eye for an eye, by the bog's life swamps and vines
They get a rise out of frogs and flies
So when a dog fights hog-tied prize sorta costs a life
The mouths water on a fork and knife
And the allure isn't right
No score on a war-torn beach
Where the cash cows actually beef
Blood turns wine when I leak for police
Like 'That's not a riot, it's a feast, let's eat.'

Found the 113 pound white guy from Ohio

>The Shorter Oxford English Dictionary gives a date of 1541 for the first recorded use of the word with the meaning "to utter (esp. an oath) sharply, vigorously, or suddenly".[14] Wentworth and Flexner's Dictionary of American Slang gives the meaning "to speak to, recognize, or acknowledge acquaintance with someone", dated 1932,[15] and a later meaning of "to converse, esp. in an open and frank manner".[16] It is these meanings from which the musical form of rapping derives, and this definition may be from a shortening of repartee.[17]

I'm actually a 160 pound (((white))) guy from Illinois.

With every word of your post I could feel my brain shrinking

If you write the words down it's poetry. (Which is here only a technical term.) But if we wish to keep the integrity of the work of art, we have to acknowledge the connection and fusion of the text and the music in a song, the fact that they shape each other. Rap poetry is fundamentally different from any normal written poetry, since it is adapted to music and temporal expression.
>also who is the literary equivalent of doom?
who the fuck cares

>is rap considered poetry?
No. Poetry is nothing more than the shadow of music, whereas rap is actually music.
To call rap poetry is to insult to the hip hop movement.

Aahhaahahah holy fucking shit that’s hilarious because it’s basically the same thing.

Props though, because Aesop Rock isn’t intellectually devoid like most rap these days :3

cringe

Care to posit some other examples? If it’s gangster rap, it automatically loses

(And don’t worry butter, you should continue, I will as well with you although I think it would be a fucking turn on for you to be masturbating to me while I’m not)

oui oui

all capitals no trick spellin, get it through your thick melon

If rap is poetry, then youtube comments are literature.

They are.

rap and its "culture" sucks
but doom is actually legit

Attached: 1522241081455.jpg (800x725, 261K)

Rap as a medium is the highest form of poetry, as it's rhythm and flow provides a more pleasurable experience, plus the limitation of rhyme schemes means you have to be wittier

and let's face it, the brain absorbs music well.

DOOM is hip hop culture, idiot

your perspective comes from ignorance.

real rap

based

going into my cringe compilation!

They don't make rap like they used to. It's all about "look how cool I am" it doesn't say anything real. The fundamental core of rap is braggadocio, but it could be so much more, and occasionally is.

Given how many ears of the youth rap has it' a shame that most of if boils down to "ayo bitch I'm rich" in so many words.

Kind of sick of rappers being paraded around like they’re some kind of savants. Yes, there are many many intelligent and lyrical rappers. None of them have ever penetrated mainstream life in any way. The ones that are good deserve massive praise only because the rest of the genre is hallmarked with autism.

Who want some dad core? (feels incoming):

I enjoy Kanye's work, who might be his literary equivalent?

You people cannot seriously believe that the dominance of the black underclass in western cultural life has produced any redeeming aesthetic or intellectual content. Genuinely embarrassed to share a board with you children
