>not a single great album
lil peep's entire career unfolded within the past nine years, moron

Is everyone just going to ignore that I made butterfly straight? Even at the expense of my own dignity?

adjective, bet. · ter, best. morally excellent; virtuous; righteous; pious: a good man. satisfactory in quality, quantity, or degree: a good teacher; good health

>No good albums in the last 9 years

I enjoyed ...Like Clockwork and A Moon Shaped Pool

There has been, we just haven't heard of it yet.

AHAHAHAHAHAH, OP here. First of all, those two albums are shit, second of all, I said GREAT.

Here comes this, retard. Listen, moron. It isn't like the past, alright? We have the internet now and hang out in niche communities, even when something is released that's "underground", it's mediocre at best, maximum 7/10. Never anything 9-10/10.

butterfly is a man so if he is actually attracted to you he's gay.

The Witch, A Separation, Whiplash, The Hunt, 13 Assassins. I know you're most likely going to call them shit because you're a bitter bastard but these movies are great.

Sage and hide bait threads

Taste is subjective. It all comes down to preferences. Just like how there are no women who find you attractive, there are no albums or novels that you find worthwhile. The difference is that you have unrealistic standards whereas women aren't so desperate for sex that they'd look your way twice.

>Taste is subjective.
It isn't. That's a spook. OP has a shit taste, though.

I thought the new Hozier album was pretty good desu

Why were the 2000s such a better decade for music than the 2010s? The 2000s gave us Sweet Trip and Have A Nice Life; the 2010s gave us what--CHVRCHES? Candy Claws is probably the best of the decade, but is that all we have to show?
I still maintain that Avatar was a terrific accomplishment in film, though, for its technical virtuosity alone.

Some of those are shit. Some are good but not really great. If you're going to name films, the last genuinely great stuff that appeared in the last 9 years would be Shame by McQueen and Winter Sleep and Anatolia by Ceylan.

The internet doesn't mean that you magically become aware of the content of terabytes of new media created every year. Everything you have access to, even through the almigthy internet, had to cross many filters, the majoriy of them not selecting for quality or "greatness".

For what we know the 100k word suicide note of some insane autistic finn lying somewhere on a shitty website with 10 daily visitors is the next Ulysses, waiting to be discovered 5 years or 10 years from now.

>somewhere on a shitty website with 10 daily visitors is the next Ulysses, waiting to be discovered 5 years or 10 years from now.

Actually its this

cosmoetica.com/American Imperium.htm

it's the conclusion to an even more agresive capitalism

We -we- don't need art anymore. Why? We need media, right, we have media, entertainment. But we don't need art anymore.

>Shame by McQueen and Winter Sleep and Anatolia by Ceylan
Oh so you're that kind of person. Shame is indeed a great film. Which films I mentioned are shit in your opinion?

What separates art from entertainment? Films can be both.

13 Assassins isn't even best Miike, and The Witch is a tame derivation of a lot of better European horror stuff.

I does seem autistic enough. Thanks for the link, will read later.

>13 Assassins isn't even best Miike
Why do you people always say that? No one is even saying it's their best. It's at least an 8/10, though.
>The Witch is a tame derivation of a lot of better European horror stuff.
Like what? I can't recall any post 2010 European film that deals with witchcraft in such a concise and elegant manner. The ending was absolutely brilliant.

Nice reddi/tv/ list you got there, loser.

Not really, no. To imply that art has a point in time where it will permanently be bad is a fucking stupid philosophy made by individuals who care more about criticizing a world they barely understand than trying to find good art.
Shove a stick up your ass and go back to the stone age, shit for brains

>*sips*
> they don't make 'em like they used to, losers!

Attached: 1525388794348.png (380x349, 77K)

Entertainment is always egoist, and is for the consumet. Art is onl by the artist, and for the work: painting, poem, etc... We don't need anymore "to make", only consume.

>implying modern cinema is so huge and vast that two online communities wouldn't get to the same familiar places

This thread isn't about great compared to other films in the last 9 years though but great overall

Some of those could be top 750 overall tbqh

stating such a fucking gigantic, all encompassing statement like that seems completely retarded to me. do you have any fucking idea how many books/movies/albums come out in a year, let alone 9 years. it's a given that the vast majority are garbagio, but how can you ever, ever state that ALL of them are shit. ALL OF THEM?

even if you think you can browse the top 0.001% of all albums by browsing rym, p4k, mu whatever, and call it a day, you haven't scratched the fucking surface of actual music being produced out there. (i houghly doubt you even do, because you consider it too much effort and make quick and easy judgements based on other people opinion) like what this guy said even all the fantanos, and p4k journalists and "patricians" have a very finite amount of time in which they can listen to new releases. the fact that p o p t i m i s m is on the rise is also a very good indicator that the amount of underground stuff is staying underground and not being popularised on the those forums that you apparently put on this pedastal as being the be all and end all of all above average music, therefore increasing the amount of potential there is in stuff you haven't ever heard of. this is definitely less the case with cinema because of the high cost of production, but there's definitely still good stuff being made in the arthouse side of things. arthouse discussion and propogation on the internet seems to be on a much lesser scale than music though. aside from ptp forums i haven't found any movie discussion apart from the usual capeshit talk. what about books? name more than 10 books you've read that came out in the past 9 years, OP.

the absolute hubris of OP to make a statement like that, fucking baffling

Paulo Sorentino would like to have a word with you

The avant garde has been to busy grandstanding to bother with progress, and they are the community that generally pushes the mainstream, there have just been to many opportunities for easy attention. It happens every so often and it takes some time to see what is actually great, we are surrounded by it all and living it, time will show that there was some accidental greatness that really shows what the decade was about.

On a positive note, people have become bored by the easy targets and some are starting to say fuck you, the avant garde is starting to push against the work of the past instead of saying my menstrual blood squirted on this canvas signifies what ever nonsense they happen to be preaching. Things are happening, who knows where it will go or if it will gain traction, but it gives me hope.

lol yeezus

Film: Twin Peaks Season 3 (Lynch has referred to it as a movie)

good shit released last 9 years:

Series: Treme, The Deuce, Show Me a Hero, Babylon Berlin, Twin Peaks Return
Films: Burning, Holy Motors, Elle, Raw, Killing of Sacred Deer, You Were Never Really Here, Sorry to Bother You, Custody, The Love Witch, Les Salauds
Books: Zero K, Bleeding Edge, The Circle
Music: Magnetic Fields - 50 Song Memoir, Nine Inch Nails - Bad Witch, Leonard Cohen - You Wanted It Darker, Low - Double Negative, Suede - The Blue Hour, Insecure Men - Insecure Men, Grouper - Grid of Points, Liars - Mess

If you wanted suggestions on media, you could've just asked. This is an anonymous image board after all. Just to name a FEW:

Films:

Arrival
Whiplash
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Revenant
Sicario
Interstellar
The Wolf of Wallstreet
The Master
The Martian
Looper
Drive
Nighcrawler
Hacksaw Ridge
John Wick 1 and 2
Ex Machina
Her

Isle of Dogs
Roma
Hereditary
Nocturnal Animals

Albums:

Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want
Kids See Ghosts - S/T
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Kendrick Lamar - Good Kid, M.A.A.D City
Run the Jewels - RTJ 1, 2, and 3
Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
Queens Of The Stone Age - …Like Clockwork
Grimes - Visions and Art Angels
Carpenter Brut - Trilogy

I have pretty normie taste, but if you take away things like genre preference each of these are objectively great pieces of art by pretty much all standards of measurement.

>to pump a butterfly

lil pump new album?

unironically these are all trash which is what the vast majority are trying to tell you - there is a certain subjectivity to art, at least, in the modern sense of "art"

to define something as art, in its purest sense, is to see if it holds against the tests of time and if public opinion favors certain works

to say nothing has been published in the last 9 years that could be considered great is reductive and proof of your limited perspective on the concept of what art, and greatness, is

tldr; u mad u brainlet?

All range from bad to mediocre

But what about RICK and MORTY?
Jokes aside new Bladerunner was very good, Enter the Void, Lunatic Soul IV, and many more. But it's harder to like newer things since there is no consensus yet on what is great so you have to take some risk

Alex Jones on Joe Rogan is easily the most entertaining thing released this decade if not century

Enter the void was in 2009...

Butterfly is a woman, she just posted another picture of herself last night. Reverse image lookup comes up with nothing, she is literally, basically flirting with me over Yea Forums.

I don’t know what to do though, on the one hand I am certain she was trying to shake me off yesterday, on the other hand, I know she didn’t just forget about everything. We moved very fast, which is okay sometimes, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to do now.

I think I can make her masturbate. At first I was joking but after yesterday I believe this to be the case. If she ended up destroying my confidence because she was masturbating and I was bragging about it, that makes sense, because that is what a woman would do in that situation.

I know this post hurts butterfly, but thank you for that image :3 you look like you have a very nice ass after all. I mean, HOLY SHIT

Jacob Collier is a great example of how having technical musical sophistication or complexity in music doesn’t automatically give it aesthetic value. I just listened to the most recent music video on his channel and it’s loaded with polyrhythms, irregular patterns, weird harmonies and everything else, yet it still sounds like a shitty pop song.

Stuff I liked from the past decade

Joanna Newsom for sure

TV: The Terror, The Young Pope, Twin Peaks 2, Mad Men, that Al-Jazeera YouTube documentary about AIPAC, the first season of True Detective. But it's mostly shit honestly. Yorgos Lanthimos isn't funny. I want everybody to stop pretending they think his movies are funny. Nobody has ever laughed at Yorgos Lanthimos comedy. At best they have snorted knowingly to themselves, then quietly glanced around the theater to see if anybody saw them understanding the joke. The joke being not a joke per se, but a character dryly making an absurd remark

I laughed several times while watching “The Favourite,” because it was funny.

Proof that brilliantly execution can create something absolutely unique out of a staid concept.

It was flawed but interesting. I found the pacing of the battle scenes weirdly engaging. It was almost like Gibson deliberately mangled the pacing of the battle scenes to create a sense of chaos and arbitrary violence.

No one here actually reads user.

The main pretense behind what's promoted and created is for exchange and not anything beyond that which is taught to some business school grad who's in power to dictate what most of society is exposed to. Anything to the exception is merely circumstantial. In our lifetime we're going to see some works of art from some who may or may not have used avenues such as Patreon who scrapped for a few dollars a month and whose work after death will conveniently be proclaimed as masterful without them being alive to benefit.

Or there's nothing worth reading

If you’re looking for greatness in rock music, you are part of the problem.

I think the problem is that a number of cultural forces have essentially homogenized the artistic class and made them adopt values antithetical to truly great art.

I don't think anyone can give this user an answer, I guess Yea Forums just aint smart enough.

>aside from ptp forums i haven't found any movie discussion apart from the usual capeshit talk.
Any examples?

I feel like online movie discussions are uniquely shite. People don't even aspire to the pretentiousness you find on e.g. Yea Forums, which sounds like a good thing until you see the same shallow analysis again and again (e.g. "good directing, great acting, tight script, overall solid 7/10"). I'm a complete brainlet myself but I don't know where to go to improve my understanding of cinema, even most professional reviewers come across as pseuds who tactically say as little as possible and then put it down to their not being allowed to reveal spoilers.

I don't want to talk about politics or hear about it or have it shoved down my throat every minute of the day. Both parties are the same--more money for israel less hope for the common man. Baiting 90 IQ retards with "drumpghth will throw all homosexuals off of rooftops" or "those city dwellers are literally murdering newborn infants" is retardation devised to distract everyone from the truth--both major parties blow ass. Just like both sjw and /pol/ are retarded. Yet here we are, no book can get through agents unless it shills their fucking political agenda, and I'm god damned sick of it.

Hey melon, you should stick to reviewing music.

I like Daft Punk, KL, RtJ, Danny Brown, QotSA, and Grimes but I wouldn't put them up as the best music in the last decade tbbh.

QOTSA's Like Clockwork is up there in the top 100 albums of the decade.

wow you managed to be more annoying than fashies and comrades wtg

>the artificial doesn't feel authentic
Maybe that's the point?

Yes

the top 100 albums of the last decade are mostly shit, only like the top 5 are decent, and theyre all just products of the spectacle

Based reportposter.

Whatever makes you feel like superior, m8.

This is genuinely a good album. Listening for the first time now. A little more up beat than this, but I might recommend HMLTD.

Collier could've been good if he wasn't a neurotic jew.

If anyone likes asian films I recommend After the Storm and Ilo Ilo. Both are good family dramas.

Loved Killing of a Sacred Deer

Based affixing-the-negational-obvious poster.

This is because you are getting older, user. All American films are crap make by hacks. Nothing by cliches, stereotypes and old worn tricks. And I am not talking about capeshit, which literally literally retard level media. American actors know about 200 facial expressions and reactions and apply them everywhere, sometimes randomly. Once you've seen a critical mass of burger films, you've seen them all. After first half an hour of watching a film you'll be able to guess several possible variants of endings.

this culture fellow gets it.
