Can someone explain accelerationism in a way that actually makes sense and isn't a bunch of dense mumbo jumbo made up words?
Can someone explain accelerationism in a way that actually makes sense and isn't a bunch of dense mumbo jumbo made up...
"The system" subsists on people trying to fix it. If you stop trying to fix it and just throw yourself into it, it dies faster.
What is the system? Is accelerationism arguing for its death? What comes after? the apocalypse?
Accelerationism can be generally summarised as the paradoxical logic behind why Marx voted in favour of free trade, despite being a communist. The idea is that there is no difference between capitalism and the approach towards the annihilation of capitalism. The system operates through a mechanism of dissipation which tends towards its own dissolution by liberating the flows of capital away from hierarchical arrangements or singular top-down points of concentrated wealth. Given enough time and willing participants the system will inevitably tend towards equilibrium, which basically means that accelerationism is a desirable end regardless of whether you're left or right-wing. If you're a leftie, you want to make conditions spiral out so badly that there is no alternative but for the system to collapse and for something new to appear. If you're a libertarian, you want capital to circulate in such a way that resists any principle of organisation that will reterritorialise wealth back onto local hierarchies. And if you're one of those crazy traditionalists, you want to substitute the hegemony of individual wealth for the absolute monarchy of capital itself.
gabadol ez gud
Who gives a shit, what matters is doing it like a bandaid, one motion, right off.
"The system" is capitalism. Depending on the strain of accelerationism you can have arguments for outright collapse or a transition to a transparently dystopian "self aware" society of gluttonous consumption (similar to what we have now but with Shadowrun technology and shit). Some accelerationists try to frame the collapse or transition as a historical inevitability, others take a prescriptive stance. But you shouldn't take anything I say seriously since I've never read a single accelerationist
>Some accelerationists try to frame the collapse or transition as a historical inevitability, others take a prescriptive stance
its strange really, if accelerationism is characterised by the inevitability of collapse then there's almost a sense in which any attempts to 'accelerate' are completely redundant. How do you 'push up' on the speed button of culture? It makes sense that cyberspace is already doing this, reinforcing your echo-chamber ideology through a positive feedback loop, but the question is whether any of us can intentionally make things degenerate at a faster rate.
But wouldn't forming paramilitaries and tearing the sytem down by force be a quicker solution than just prescribing to it in the hopes that it will eventually collapse in on itself? (Assuming you had the pre-requisite resources to do so that is)
er... no.
It's basically the cringe and retarded conclusion inevitable if you take anything Marx said seriously.
Since Marx was objectively wrong about every single thing he said, there's no point to even countenance the idea. Law of Value and such nonsense.
It'd be a good way to get your belly unzipped by someone with a commissar hat, I guess. Since Leftists have lost every single engagement they have ever had with Capitalism, Accelerationism maintains (incorrectly) that by pushing Capitalism harder, they will reach its late stage more quickly.
Of course Capitalism doesn't have a late stage, or an early stage. It's eternal. This is the truth. The only thing Accelerationism accelerates towards is the torture and murder of thieves and criminals, i.e. of left-wing people. I support it in effect but not in principle.
You can't 'force' capitalism to collapse, any attempt to destabilise it will inevitably just substitute it with something relatively similar when the revolutionaries come into power. It's very difficult to find a radically new foundation for society without scorching the roots of the old one, so to speak. Seeing as capitalism is a dissipative mechanism it makes sense to talk analogously about it in terms of thermodynamics: if capitalism is this cosmic death drive, then thermal equilibrium is either the 'perfect' final form of capital, or rather the terminal exit velocity by which something else comes into being. There is no sense today that revolutionary warfare can even come close to approximating this kind of change
here's my novice attempt before reading any replies:
Capital (the motor of modernity) monopolizes all attempts to leave it behind. Humanity (in it's current conception) will have to find a separate way "forward" or cease to be human. But as the system does not allow for escape, itself being escape from humanity, the only leaving behind of Capital (also number and intelligence itself) is a sort of stagnation or neutral situation. It remains to be seen if such an social existence is possible, whence comes left-right accelerationist.
>Marx was so wrong about everything I don't need to provide justification for my "objective" opinions
What is the point of posting if there is literally zero substance to your post?
>Either Capitalism Collapses
>Or we Get Deus Ex world
Sounds like a win win
No
There are clear chapters in human history, each is succeeded by something else.
The current age of capitalism is at its end but most people still cling to it and aggressively defend it in a desperate rage against the inevitable replacement. The faster coming of this replacement whatever it may be (I guess a new form of communism or some kind of hive mind approach similar to Brave New World even if I personally don't like both) would be preferable to keep ever more people from experiencing mass psychosis like they are suffering from right now. Limiting human suffering is the only realistic goal.
>notional derivatives at 20x world GDP is just like, entropy and shit
Advocating for the collapse of civilized society and, depending on branch, either the institution of AI-overseen slavery or complete annihilation of the human race. No, seriously. They are a death cult, not serious philosophers. Think antinatalists except their insanity is on an industrial scale and they want YOU to suffer too.
What do you mean by mass psychosis, what makes you think capitalism is in genuine crisis and why would the mode of production necessarily shift in a benevolent direction?
But the current system is burning through the only environment we have at an extreme rate while no one really does shit about it.
Yes. A reasonable human might tell you that this is an indication that either we should fundamentally change the system in some directed manner or seek to, for instance, empower government agencies to better regulate environmental controls. An accelerationist “solution” is to infect the entire human population with AIDS so that we all die horrible deaths and stop polluting.
No it isn't, it's that the system has proven remarkably robust at resolving its own contradictions and coopting and destroying any serious movement against it in the slow boil mode, so it's about turning up the heat all the way in an act of final desperation before the elites have us all under their fully automated mass surveillance unbeatable despotism.
I might believe you if every accelerstionist I’ve ever read hasn’t talked about AI enslavement or human extermination as valid options. Destruction of a system for its own sake isn’t a valid position if you don’t have anything poised to replace it, and as long as the only thing accelerationisys have proposed is death or slavery, they’re a death cult in my eyes. Not sorry.
AI enslavement and extinction are already on the cards though, those are the problems.
> psychosis
Rise of identity politics where it is impossible to find a middle ground.
Rise of mental health problems across the board.
> genuine crisis
Rise of mental health problems, destruction of the middle class and the constant calls for closing of whatever wage gap for years with no solutions in sight says that the system isn't healthy and in need of repair if not replacement.
> shift in a benevolent direction
Wishful thinking mostly lol
At least the starting phase of a new system would improve life quality compared to the old system. Problems arise through unwillingness of the system to adapt while people begin exploiting its weaknesses. If the system can't fix itself it needs a reboot.
Identity politics won't seem to collapse the system, they strengthen and immunize it if anything. The genius of them is they're effectively autopoietic cointelpro.
literally marxist dialectics w/r/t accumulation of capital and centralization of power except instead of revolution at the end you get some kind of cyberpunk eschaton with an ai smarter than the human mind emerges unfathomable life a cthulu monster or the big baby at the end of 2001 come to inherit the human world
we are in retrospect then the cultists performing the summoning
there´s also posadism, a marxist/trotskyst splinter group that postulates that nuclear war will force extraterrestrial intervention to install full communism
also there´s something about dolphins but I can´t remember
Posadism is the lefty sci fi equivalent of Nazi occultist edgelord larping.
>Of course Capitalism doesn't have a late stage, or an early stage. It's eternal.
Imagine being this fucking naive. You remind me of morons like Fukuyama who thought neoliberalism would never face backlash. No political or economic system lasts forever, what replaces capitalism might not be socialism but it will be something nonetheless, just like liberalism replaced monarchism and agricultural societies replaced nomads.
>the torture and murder of thieves and criminals
Criminals are defined by whoever is in power.
Yes, but only after you give me that source.
The resident Marxism on Yea Forums is so tired and passe at this point. Accelerating towards late stage capitalism as a means to replace one productivity-based wealth economy with another """equal""" productivity-based wealth economy is missing the point
Neo-historicist academics from the postfuture who still haven't figured out how to meme.
Imagine Steven Pinker if he were an edgy teen.
>gabidull zo bad id gud

this is a pretty shit description; might have fit accelerationism in Marx's day (if you can say it existed). today accelerationism is the study of positive cybernetic processes taking place between non-human intelligence at a rate which looks as if it will outpace humanity and head for the Exit. prescriptive and borderline prophetic topics like this user wants to have is not something necessary to accelerationism, but rather the consists of the personal assumptions of various accelerationists.
Accelerationism is acknowledging that our current society is based on the propagation of positive feedback loops. It's not that you should act to accelerate society towards an end, but that society can only accelerate and any attempt to slow it down is futile. After this realization some people insert their own hopes to accelerate to some goal, but general accelerationism just points out that the acceleration is happening and that we are probably fucked.
A whole paragraph but shallow as fuck. You took all those lines to say what everyone pretty much knows about it already.
Theres also a belief of "hacking the macropod",exploiting glitches in the human security system, a "k-war", and "neolemurian time-wars". Land's first stuff discusses the horrors later stuff is much different
>gabidull in fuchuh bedduh cuz fuchuh bedduh
It's just Marx's theory of devalorisation, but larped as cyberpunk fanfiction within an economy of gold and upvotes. He talks about a philosophy of cryptocurrency because it's a buzzword for hip academics to circlejerk, not because there's any substance to it.
Pure liberal academia stripmining outliers of thought until the cartel eventually sells nothing - because that which is sold undermines the very operating procedures determined by the shareholders and cannot be reconciled with a bill of sale. Capital is a sentience vomitory, and we see this unfolding at every level of society.
>OP asks for a general overview of acceleration without ridiculous in-group jargon
>'lol this post shallow as fuck you didn't even mention neolemurian time-wars'
Do people tell you to your face that you're insufferable, or just discuss it behind your back?
source on this semen demon please
who is this pretty retard
what can i do to help accelerate?
STEP ON IT SHORT ROUND
>finding autistic insufferability on Yea Forums
color me surprised user
are you sure you're not overthinking it? Its just making the shit happen sooner or accelerate it
no it's not
Not user, but to be fair you can't discuss accelerationism properly without such terms discussing the basic "Capitalism is going to kill itself and we die cyper punk stuff" is like maybe 2% of what the whole of it is about, maybe if your asking for a summary on something it just shows how lazy your are? Like seriously the Wikipedia page has pretty much all you need to know without being too complex but introducing you to cool stuff;Even Land himself cited it, claiming it was short but a really a good page and well written. The. Wikipedia. Page.
Op did not even attempt to google it.
Stop posting my wife
define it user
Accelerationism comes from two assumptions. The current system is on a downward spiral into catastrophe and rebuilding a new society takes less effort than reforming the old.
The old society -like anything old and established- resists the necessary reforms, which means it needs to be torn down anyway. Therefore, pushing for a quick end, or accelerating the factors that kill society brings about the new society rising from the ashes of the old.

I'm sorry mr. John maus. wish she would talk to me. I feel bad for posting her fave,i shouldn't have. I know she doesn't like it. Why am I like this? I want to hold her hand as she walks me through art museums and shows me all her favorite paintings and tells me about this artist or that art movement. I want to surprise her by making scones at 5am and giving her a wonderful breakfast in bed. We'd watch the blue jays on the suet feeders outsode while a squirel picks apart an ear of corn mounted on the tree in the backyard. In the fall we could take a walk through the woods and experience all the autumn leaves on the deciduous trees.
I'll ask you again, who is she? Who the hell are you for that matter?
Respect her right to privacy, she's already dealt with enough of you creeps
This. Leave Ken alone.
