>read science fiction
>realize that half that shit is reality now days
>nobody cares or finds it exciting
>it's just normal
Read science fiction
thinking about technology makes me feel derealized
mobile phones and the internet is the craziest fucking thing
I get excited about that shit all the time but people just think I'm autistic when I say "isn't it wild that we have escalators and smartphones and stuff?" Even my parents don't give a fuck and they didn't have color television.
We don't realize that we live in "the future" because popular culture has told us widely available flying cars are the sine qua non of the futuristic, and until we get those flying fuckers to hell with the rest of it.
I don't know why yet, but this is profound. Is that your own thought? I need to explore this withholding of the future concept.
I literally just thought of that as a response to the thread. It's not that profound. We have a conditioned notion of what something "futuristic" looks like as a result of popular culture. This notion always seems to include flying cars, for some reason. Until we get flying cars, therefore, we won't really feel like we have "officially" made it to "the future"

>half of sf is reality now
You haven't read much sf, have you?
It's something about the paradigm of greed and mandated economic growth, keeping us restless.
No, you dipshit, it's about flying fucking cars. I want to fly my kids to school you god damn facist. Give me my flying fucking cars.
You'd only crash it.
We're not in space yet, idiot
Nor do we have fancy AI or robots with them
None of sci fi shit is reality, we just have smaller computers and Magic Bullet
The only thing that is new is touch screen interfaces being normal and it is cringe shit bogged down by Android and Apple bullshit
>science fiction future with spaceships and robots will never come to fruition
>the first self improving A.I will develop exponentially until it hits whatever limit exists, by then it will have created the singularity and reality will be unrecognizable from what we know it as today
This has probably already happened, we are probably living in the singularity right now, this is probably a simulation of the real world inside the singularity which is in itself another simulation inside a singularity that happened in another simulation ad infinitum
>it's just normal
Because it is - there's no contradiction.
I mean by the same line of thought you can be astonished that we can write symbols on a piece of paper and a person reading it a day later can utter the same exact sentence. Apes don't do that.
positive emotion is unfashionable
>implying we'd have any control over them
Theyd be completely automated or itd be disastrous. Could you imagine the 62 yr old hard of everything woman that the government refuses to take off the road being allowed to own and drive a flying vehicle? Her dumb senile boomer brain can barely operate on the X and Z axises nevermind the Y. Itd be a new 9/11 every week.
yeah it's because it's not profitable.
the technology for a lot of sci-fi esque shit is already here, it's just not being refined yet. the only thing we actually need are better energy sources, but that's just not profitable for people RN so.
it's all about money. the whole world is about money. nothing happens unless money. we could have fucking fusion and people would be starving, because money. so it's no surprise that the future is here but we're not realizing it.
...
Yeah fascist give us our damn flying cars you privileged fuck
Why is this?
Thank God we don't, normal cars are dangerous enough already. Though driverless cars are a cure worse than the disease.
>t*chnology
>exciting
Fuck flying cars, I want extra-terrestrial colonization.
Buy Ethereum. I know that it's absurd to think that something simple as buying internet money will introduce extraterrestrials into your life. But that's life for you.
iktf
I didn't say aliens. I said extra-terrestrial colonization. As in, colonizing anywhere outside Earth.
>Itd be a new 9/11 every week.
kek
> driverless cars are a cure worse than the disease.
Just make public (and private) transport that aren't fucking road vehicles. Goddamn I hate that shit so much sometimes, I just see them piled up and think of the absurdity of it, dozens of cars with one person in each.
Not even video games can have flying cards nowadays. The dream is dead.
