I get excited about that shit all the time but people just think I'm autistic when I say "isn't it wild that we have escalators and smartphones and stuff?" Even my parents don't give a fuck and they didn't have color television.

We don't realize that we live in "the future" because popular culture has told us widely available flying cars are the sine qua non of the futuristic, and until we get those flying fuckers to hell with the rest of it.

I don't know why yet, but this is profound. Is that your own thought? I need to explore this withholding of the future concept.

I literally just thought of that as a response to the thread. It's not that profound. We have a conditioned notion of what something "futuristic" looks like as a result of popular culture. This notion always seems to include flying cars, for some reason. Until we get flying cars, therefore, we won't really feel like we have "officially" made it to "the future"
