They should let books be books and write their own screenplays for TV and movies.
But sometimes you have films like The Godfather, Satantango, Un homme qui dort, Solaris, Blow Up, Barry Lyndon etc that all either supersede or at least do justice to the books. Just take them as entirely separate works.
