They really fucked up buying City. They should have bought a club that already had a decent size fanbase pashunit fans.
It was always going to be hard to get locals invested when you're in such close proximity to United and Liverpool. Chelsea managed it because London is a big place and even the closer ones are meme clubs. The Saudis got it right with Newcastle because it's a one club city and the only Premier League club for about 100 miles.
