Who else is excited for Denis-kino?

Anyone who thinks this will be a financial success is insane. This is going to be another Blade Runner 2049 flop.
DUUUUUUUUUUUNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
this is so ill advised I like it
>didn't cast Jared Harris as Leo Atreides
It'll be shit
Most of them don't give a shit about Dune ot won't until they watch it and then you can apply this meme.
More likely an Alita or Jupiter Ascending
is this new? are marvel humpers really all that jazzed about dadcore pop pulp sci fi
This headline implies Avatar and Star Wars are anywhere near the same league as LOTR, which isn´t true.
wish i could see this in the theaters but i haven't talked to any of my friends for about 3 years now, been all alone since.
Nothing is equal to LOTR though but I think Dune will be close.
What they don't understand is that those other IPs mentioned are high concept. That is, they're very easy to explain. Dune is tl;dr nonsense and it's not good.
But Lord of The Rings wasn't a diverse SJW fest and Nu-Wars flopped, unless they dare to say they are making sci-fi and/or fantasy back in form?
You can come with me bro
thanks il let you know when
Denis said he's keeping it VERY similar to the book.
>avatar
>high concept
lotr gets credit for being a reimagined christian allegory and starwars (at least the OT) gets some for putting the hero with a thousand faces archetypes to film
avatar is wasted potential at best and Saturday morning cartoon at worst
I don't think you understand what high concept means. It's not about quality, it's about how easy it is. Avatar is one of the easiest movies to explain as you only have to say Pocahontas or Ferngully or Dancing with Wolves in space.
So you might think Dune is "quality" but it's not high concept. And it's bad when it'll be shown Christmas season.
Dune is Lawrence of Arabia with Sandworms, human computers and other cool shit.
It won't do as badly as BR2049 because it's not a sequel. I don't think it'll be a huge success but I think it'll cross the double its budget threshold. It needs a really good trailer more than anything else
>alright guys, this movie is going to be very popular and successful
If you can "position" a movie to be these things then why aren't they doing that for every movie?
They've also promised a diverse cast, that's how it started with Nu Wars.
Explain the blackwashing then.
It's just going to be turned into a generic space ship explody movie
>genre foundation movie
these properties will never make money, they've been around so long everyone has either already stolen what was there or improved on what made it great in the first place.
>Star Wars dies
>Dune takes it's rightful place as the greatest sci-fi series ever
We're going home to Arrakis, lads
more like dunekakino
giv thirsty fremen gf
Pacino as Duke Leto?
Have you seen a single film from the director
So much of SW was ripped from dune anyway, not that there's anything wrong with that
so ruined by niggers and trannys
It's just ASoIAF, but in space
>Nothing is equal to LOTR though but I think Dune will be close.
Dune is miles better than LOTR. LOTR is just a kiddy story
SW ripped of Lensman for the most part.
Never heard of it. Is the copying as blatant as what Lucas cribbed from Dune?
Well, time to be outright insulted by what they produce while normalfags pretend to rave that they've loved the series forever.
>just
Star Wars was always crap as sci-fi, it ruined sci-fi media as well by turning everything into space operas
I’m glad it’s dying maybe people will be interested in actual sci-fi now
God created arrakis to train the faithful
Is this bait? Lynch directed Dune several years after Star Wars and Empire. Hell, he turned down directing Return of the Jedi to make Dune.
Not writing this as a call out or something, but genuinely curious. What would you label as a actual sci-fi aside from Dune? Would you say things like Star Trek is space opera too?
It never was sci-fi, you retard.
It's space fantasy.
It's sci-fi, satan. Nice try.
Even more so, just google it.
So you are so autistic that you think it should be illegal to have space travel in fiction if it's not a futuristic setting?
This sounds counterintuitive but what Dune actually needs is more not less. The Dune story is more complex than just about anything else, yet very little is explained, almost nothing is shown, and in a known universe of people we really just focus on three major characters. A proper Dune cinematization needs to follow lower-level people on the different planets, showing how the societies are different, and how the different classes have a different understanding of the same things.
And it wouldn't hurt to actually give us reason to view Duncan as a badass instead promising that he is and then immediately killing him.
Listen: Larry Niven's Known Space.
But no let's make Spiderman Eighteen.
>remakes good
Get out, zoomers.
That's bad. All of the changes Lynch made were good and necessary. The book is actually poorly written but so much is happening that you forgive it.
You are so autistic that you think space travel is the deciding factor and not the mechanics within the setting. You're poop, kid. Try to actually be sensible instead of just saying things to look smart and failing.
It's not a remake.
Star Trek is sci-fi but it’s extremely soft lazy sci-fi (I cant blame it for that in the 60s and 90s with a tv show budget though). It was still a good show, as the og Star Wars movies were good movies, but they aren’t great as sci-fi, Star Wars particularly has no real aspect of it that has the science part
things like bladerunner I would consider sci-fi , along with more recent stuff like annihilation and ex machina
Logan’s run, silent running, and 2001 (obviously) are sci-fi
Sci-fi tends to be better with a slower pace
TLDR: Star Wars isn’t sci-fi because it has no sci, Star Trek isn’t great sci-fi because the science and setting is extremely weak a lot of the time
Frank Herbert's novels are solid sci-fi. It's Brian's abominations that are fantasy.
This. It'll flop. Neat ideas that have already been implemented elsewhere.
>adaptation of a book that has been adapted before is a remake of the former adaptation
Retard illiterate
Gankutsuou isn’t a Japanese remake of the french count of Monte cristo miniseries just because they use the same source material
No, you are the one here claiming Star Wars is sci fi just cause it has space travel, poobrain.
Other than the space travel, technology isn't a central part of Star Wars and it dosen't take place in the future or even our universe.
I was refering to Star Wars, poobrains.
Star Wars is Lord of The Rings with space travel.
Pls don’t call me a retard free
I agree it was never sci-fi and was just fantasy in space, but people act like it was sci-fi so it’s easier to just point out that the sci-fi level of Star Wars is barely there
i 4 1 am super super pumped for denis arenobsys Dude
One thing's for sure: it's going to be dishonest.
>giant planet destroying laser beams
>super heated plasma fired
>massive genetic cloning
>mass produced robotic armies of sentient robots
>sentient robots developing more jarring personalities as they retain more of a personality
>laser swords
>suits that can keep a horrid burn victim alive and fully mobile
>floating vehicles that don't operate off of inflating portions
>giant walking war machines
>energy shields created in general
>synthetically created healing juice
>fully operational prosthetic limbs with feeling
Everything I just mentioned now plays a major plot point within the series, and operates on a science fiction basis. You are a stinky diarrhea breathed dumb dumb and your mom thinks you're stupid.
(you)
Based dishonest-poster
Star Trek is space soap opera according to Frakes.
So fantasy can't have technology?
Dosen't it work the other way around then, the fantasy elements disqualify Star Wars from being sci fi?
He’s not wrong really, the character interaction was the main driver
That is if what you said wasn’t a total fabrication
It is a sci-fi fanta sea, stinklord.
It was from a docu in the late 90s or early 00s. When he said it, it reminded me of the groan inducing love triangle between his character, Troy, and Worf in the last few seasons of TNG.
Very little of that technology is actually explained or makes sense
The giant laser beams and laser swords are literally powered by magic crystals
Fantasy can have some technology in it because then any fantasy story that isn’t set in the Stone Age would become sci-fi but the plot of Star Wars is much more about generic good vs evil than it is about any of the technology, none of that technology is part of the themes of the story
just letting you know that I'm not reading your post.
normies literally CANNOT INTO Dune. They will be more confused by Dune than they were by Game of Thrones, and Dune won't have the tits, rape, and memetic potential of GoT because its going to be a movie instead of a dragged out tv series.
Also, being "next year's Star Wars" is NOT a good thing post nu-wars. lol Scott Mendelson is an absolute goblin troll jew hybrid.
>just letting you know that I’m a lazy brainlet who won’t acknowledge criticism
Ok I should’ve realised that someone who thinks Star Wars is sci-fi is not worth talking to
“””my bad”””
Ah yes, Dune, the sci-fi for people who think they're refined and intellectual. Who won't stoop for "star trek", even the good iterations of it.
Nope, has to be Dune, so niche, so intellectual, so groundbreaking! Can't have Starship Troopers, that's too fascist... but Dune is truly unique!
Yep! I'm going to be a pretentious fuck, and tell everyone how my knowledge of DUNE makes me such a better, superior nerd. Even if it's a mundane and dull sci-fi setting which honestly is nothing special but we'll ignore that because it's just about unknown enough to be worthy of my smarmy status.
Oh and did I tell you I love HP lovecraft's work? Yes truly wonderful work.
Lots of extremely memorable movies were flops when they came out. We're not businessmen. Why should we care?
>star trek
outside of the original series and enterprise, the rest of star trek is a fantasy soap opera in a space settings with little to no actual science fiction involved.
>tfw have a dune tattoo from years ago
>now i'm going to have what is equivalent to a cringy Star Wars tattoo
fuck
it's going to be tailored towards normies, and therefore it will be ruined. it's really quite sad.
That's the point i'm making. Some of something is good, like the original 3 star wars. Not -all- of it is shit.
And none of it can compare to LOTR, the fact they're put in the same title is insulting. The hobbit, maybe, but not lotr.
Only the most weak faggots solely preach about dune as the only good sci-fi, and lovecraft as the only good horror. Because they're just posing to look superior. They have to as their GF (if they have one) sleeps around. and he knows she does, but doesn't do anything about it because her fake kisses are still kisses.
He can say whatever the fuck he wants, the studio gets the final word. They will rewrite the entire thing from the ground up and reshoot it to their liking with a different director if need be.
Anyone who cares about whether a film/show will be a financial success is insane.
The merits of art should come from how well it expresses itself, and in the case of this show it's success is dependent on how well it adapts the books to be both faithful and not boring.
I've tried to read Dune before, and I couldn't get past the second sparring scene after the Gom Jabbar, and I only remember it's called that because of Billy & Mandy referencing it.
>based dennis
>tailoring any of his movies for normies
lmao'ing at you
They'll have to drastically change the story to avoid offending anyone.
post tat
This is such absolute horseshit.
The only good adaptations of Dune were the Westwood RTS games, and those had almost nothing of the book in them. It doesn't do well in a non-literature medium.
>The movie is gonna perform well financially
Not
>The movie is gonna be good
The absolute state of Hollywood
>it doesn't do well
there is very little in the book that is just impossible to translate. People take Jodorowsky's attempt as evidence but he wanted to change literally everything and make it more grand
Are any of you really here because of the book?
>op picture is literally the movie
Starship troopers is boring, it presents interesting ideas but it’s not too great for interesting stories about the science in sci-fi. Starship troopers is the worst heinlein book to adapt into a movie because it’s basically an exploration of a political ideology with almost no story, it would make a boring movie
>inb4 the verhoven movie was good
It was effectively a parody of the book, it’s comedic
Also heinlein is baby’s first sci-fi only just more obscure than dune mainly. Most of his protagonists are Gary Stus as well
Sounds terrible. Most of those franchises are bottom of the barrel, mouth breather films. Why would I want Dune to be anything like Star Wars?
Bless the maker and his water, bless the coming and going of him, may his passing cleanse the world.
Yes I read dune when I was a teenager and that’s why I’m interested in an adaptation
>is this bait
Well your post certainly is
AMA
Read in this dude's voice:
youtu.be
Dune themes that normies can't get into
>never place your trust in a savior (Bernie)
>tradition has importance in establishing stability
>women are not equal to men and must excel in other fields to gain influence
Go back to your capeshit thread you fucking moron
Gay
>memetic potential
BR 2049 has probably spawned the biggest movie meme on Yea Forums since baneposting.
>ywn see a good knownspace adaptation
It hurts
What about people who place their trust in Trump and Q, and all the bad things that happen in Dune because of traditions and prophecies?
To come full circle.
I'll just leave this here
I remember Paul ran around alone with his mom for a while and that made me horny. My own mom is gross though its just the thought of another mom being that depraved is hot. Or some hypothetical scenario where I have a different mom who's got big mom jugs is also hot. God milf tits are the best
Wasn’t there an adaptation of dune that the director wanted to have incest between Paul and Jessica ?
>inb4 behind the dune
I mean an actual adaptation
whats wrong with lovecraft? too racist?
>everything has to be a billion dollar franchise now
it's all so tiresome
Lovecraft was paid by the word and it shows. Quite literally too many notes. Hemingway got shit done.
Paul is also a male Bene Gesserit who becomes emperor of the known universe, so men can also excel in women's fields. He also upsets galactic stability and kills billions of people, so maybe men should stay in their own field and breeding the Kwisatz Haderach was a bad tradition. However, these two interpretations contradict at least one of his points.
It's the premise of the thread.
The premise of the thread is that it'll be critically successful and influential to film as a whole, not whether it'll make bank.
its gonna flop because denis has cast a bunch of shitty actors. his style over substance approach combined with idiotic casting will make the movie into a huge snoozefest.
it all comes down to the script. if they did a good job with the script, it will be good. you can have the best cgi and cinematgrophy, but if the script is trash the movie sucks. (e.g. disney star wars)
It's already been pre-ruined with a bunch of diversity casting choices.
who is the best choice for thufir hawat and why is it patrick stewart?
>comparing Hemingway to Lovecraft
wew lad
I'm not looking for literature. I'm looking for pulp horror
Thou shall not create a machine in the likeness of a human mind
We're all here because of the book, dummy
I'm just glad that it's not a fucking Disney film for once.
Literally everyone in Dune is white, even the Fremen
Its okay to see Villaneuve films alone
already confirmed, check the wikipedia page
It doesn't do well in a literature medium either
You couldn't source a word from your vocabulary other than shit?
Dishonest sci fi, no thank you.
>yeah dune was was nonsense. SO confusing ; it's just not good
100% brainlet
were the two yous worth it?
Two? There's only one.
This, caring about how much a movie makes more than it just being a curiosity is not healthy.
>son of mendel
It will be an interracial diverse nightmare.
Blade runner made money user.
mfw I actually really liked both of those films
>blade runner made money
>didn't even make its budget back domestically nor double worldwide
Further proof that namefags are utter brainlets.
>ignores fact it made money worldwide
literal retard
They certainly can be compared. Lovecraft has been a canonical American writer for quite some time now, his literary merit is beyond question except to people who don't get literature. His influence is global and touches all kinds of fields, people and interests.
The joke is that many modern readers actually take Hemingway's style to be a blueprint for proper style, and have aneurysms when they encounter ornate writing with difficult words. They then take this personally and fault the writer.
