These movies get a lot of divisive discussion and it's hard for opposing sides to empathize with the other so I'll explain why. Because they both suffer from the same condition.
Both of these movies are literally too smart for normies, but dumb for people who analyze films. The thematic elements and allegories are going to fly over most people's heads, but fail even when they don't. So this leads to a weird type of discussion.
These movies aren't pleb filter, if you hate it it's because you didn't get it or didn't like the execution or themes. If you did like it, it's because you recognize the themes and production process but haven't put them under scrutiny yet.
nah they're just plain shit Last Jedi very very very much more so and you're a gay

only way to call Last Jedi good is if you're watching the fanedit that takes out all the horsefuckery, YAS QUEENing and dumb Marvel jokes. having it just be primarily about Rey + Kylo makes it feel like a lean-and-mean minimalist kino.
but we shouldn't have to be watching fanedits. Rian "The Hack" Johnson should pull his head out of his ass and start making movies that are completely good instead of trying to "subvert expectations" like he did with TLJ and Looper. goddamnit i wanted to like Looper so much but the back half of the movie is just trash.

Add Prometheus and Alien Covenant

Unironically correct for BvS, TLJ doesn't have any themes it's just shit for the sake of being shit though
The only things that happened in Last Jedi were the Republic is reduced to like 30 people and Luke is gone. Veganism was kind of a theme of Finn's story? Anti tyranny is an ideal theme of the Republic but it's completely canceled out by Poe's story. I think Rian Johnson is a fan of the KOTOR games because he tried to implement 2's major question of why are jedi and sith associated with good and evil with Luke and Rey then again with Kylo and Rey. Then all of that is canceled out yet again when Kylo just decides to be a bad guy. It had neat ideas it tried to implement but they didn't matter in the end because nothing really came out of them. I didn't watch BVS because I was done with DC after Superman Returns
