Why do people claim that animation was better in the 80s when it really wasn't?

Its not the animation but a short sighted grasp to go back to the idea that animation before wasn't signalling as many virtues. Little do they know they did the same thing just tried to sell toys on top of that.

> animation before wasn't signalling as many virtues.
Thats a DEFINITE lie.

Same reason they think anime is better animated. Because they're judging based on the art style, and ignoring the fact that they move like cardboard cutouts if they move at all.

>80s animation wasn't signaling as many virtues
You probably weren't alive or old enough to realize it then, but that was during the tail end of second-wave feminism, lots of women were heading into the workforce, and there was a lot of "empowerment" messaging going on, particularly in media--which extended to cartoons. There were lots of characters who people would backlash against now as "pushing the 'stronk womyn' can do anything men can agenda."

At the same time, there was a lot more inclusiveness going on with characters in cartoons, more diverse casts, probably at least in part to do with the tensions going on at the time. A lot of shows that were made in the 80s would probably get blasted by anti-SJWs if they were made today.

>anime in the 80s moved like cardboard cutouts
Nah, you're a faggot.

Western animation did the cardboard cutout thing. Anime just used a stupidly low frame rate in most of their stuff, which in the end worked out better given the technology of the time but is extremely noticeable when comparing it to animation today.

Because they're retarded.

>animation before wasn't signalling as many virtues
Good joke, user. Good fucking joke.

This. Anyone who judges from the art style alone are retartrd, since they don't know that sometimes there are good shows with bad art styles, like pic related, and bad shows with good art styles, like any cartoon from the early-mid 80s.

reaching that boomer age of going over the good old days, i tell you what

80s cartoons have a weird duplex syndrome to them.
On one hand they are usually made to promote something, usually a toy line, but on the other hand a lot of them genuinely try to do the best with what they have.
He-Man for example reuses the same rotoscoped animations constantly but somehow manages to get a story of the week out there and some episodes are actually pretty good even if you can tell they literally were throwing any old idea into it without any thought of continuity.
But some of them really did genuinely try really hard. Like say Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors or Dungeons and Dragons.
And I feel you wouldn't get cartoons like that these days.

>The idea that animation before wasn't signalling as many virtues
Yeah, can't we go back to classic nonpandering shows like Captain Planet?

1st grade level reading comprehension

nostalgiafags are mentally ill

Illiterate retards

It was a low bar and some shows managed to go even lower than that.

>And I feel you wouldn't get cartoons like that these days.
Of course not. Those shows came around to compete with what Star Wars was doing. Nowadays fuck that.

Akira was released in the 80's.

But we're not talking about anime.

Outsourcing to Japan

nostalgia
cartoons were at their best in the late 90s and early 2000s and thats not just my nostalgia

Animation is animation user, I don't know what you want me to say.

Ey Zim a Zam! It's a me, the pizza man!

Ugh, KC's style is so hideous, I don't care if the show's the best ever. I wouldn't eat gourmet food that smelled like shit.

So? That's your opinion. I say the show's better if the characters aren't fappable, because that means people can focus on actually discussing the show.

There's no way this wasn't a single samefag who just got mad after misreading 's post. I refuse to believe otherwise.

>food analogy
put down the fucking fork

Pffff. Bullshit. By then cel-drawn animation was on its way out or gone. You were left with soulless early flash-era flat computer shit. It's what led to the garbage that's on the air today. The late 90s-early 2000s was the death of animation.

Except that, despite the art being more soulless, the writing was just as good as the 90s during the early 2000s. Shit only hit the fan in 2006.
