I wish I could find the exact video or quote but from memory: He once said in an interview that American Dad went in a very different direction than what he wanted and he didn't understand it until people started coming up to him and raving about American Dad. After conversing with fans he went back and rewatched some episodes and he said he completely gets it now, thinks the writers are brilliant, and admits it is no longer a show he could write. He said in some other interview that he has absolutely no creative involvement in American Dad beyond being an actor.

Current actual Star Trek is made by people who never watched the shows. Seth at least made everybody binge watch original and next gen before and during filming.

A lot of stuff that comes out of Hollywood rarely ever has the top billing hold majority involvement with the work. Same could be said about Yea Forums series, cartoon shows are usually made in concept by a single person, but after a few episodes they either sit back and let the others handle it or they leave to move onto another project. Look at Rebecca Sugar, she made SU but after the first two seasons she's barely involved anymore and rarely if ever actually handles animating or writing for Steven Universe these days. In her case it was a bad thing because it gave us slipshod quality and a lot of townies episodes whereas for American Dad it became better after Seth fucked off.
