Okay, how about this for a premise:
>Natural disasters. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tidal waves, volcanic eruptions. They happen, it's a fact of life. But the thing is, not all of them are entirely natural. Sometimes it seems like the greatest of calamities are more than just misfortune, as if there's some sort of malicious intelligence commanding them, directing them towards humanity's strongholds as unstoppable weapons of war. That's exactly what's happening, and only one man knows the truth. Unfortunately, everyone else thinks he's nuts.
You'd have to come up with a reason why the natural disasters do what they do, though you could just have them be avatars of malevolence and chaos that want to break all of existence like, say, Kid Buu. You could also go the the "nature strikes back against mankind" route, but that's overdone at this point and frankly a little bit retarded.

About Colette's gauntlets, there's many interesting designs, and many more ideas on how they should work, what I'm proposing is a "quick switch system".
Colette can switch between gauntlet types, with different abilities/disadvantages. At first, she cannot control the switch (going from super slim gauntlet type to heavy duty type, in an already awkard situation) but as the story progresses, Colette starts practicing with the many gauntlet configurations, and even combine them (gravitational gauntlet in her left arm and heavy hitter gauntlet on the right arm) the only gauntlet type I would be against is a projectile, maybe a rocket hand, but not something explosive.
Also, the boots, Colette could start barefooted, but later on, she gets another package with a note that reads "Loving your work" no signature.
Don't know if something similar has been proposed before, sorry if that's the case.
