For the longest time, I always thought self-inserting was when you wrote yourself into a story, not pretending to be a fictional character.

Beast Boy is unnervingly close to what the average Yea Forumsmrade is. TOO close. He's an immature nerd who, despite his flaws, gets to have a close relationship with Yea Forumss eternal waifu. It's basic jealousy, like seeing a girl you like going out with a dude that is so much like you, but not you.

I used to find the pairing cute, but then i started to see more and more images of Beast Boy with Terra, Starfire, Jinx, and so on. That's when i realized that people didn't like the pairing because they were cute together, but rather because they self-inserted into Beast Boy. That's when the pairing started to look very creepy to me.
I feel the same way about the Spider-Man and Wolverine shit. They're very self-inserty characters that writers and fans alike have them interact ALL THE LADIES because of it.

The ship itself is just really bland and shallow, but easy to ignore since it isn't canon for most depictions of these characters.
The problem is that a lot of the people who like it are zutara-tier autists about it, and overall the most obnoxious group of shippers I've seen on Yea Forums outside of a RWBY general.
