>Any particular reason this show is forgotten about with no DVD release ever?
It's a non-Disney property owned by Disney. Only a tiny fraction of those are remembered by anyone at all
That hurts me, since this was the Peter Pan i grew up with rather than Disney's (which I blame both on ease of watching on Fox compared to the premium channel I didn't have of Disney) but also because Tim Curry's Hook was infinitely more appealing to me than the cowardly beanpole of Disney's film.
I remember liking it but they kept changing time slots earlier until I finally gave up on tracking it down saturday morning.
I'm not waking up at 7 in the morning on a saturday if I dont have to
I recall it coming on at 3 that I'd watch every day after school.
I'm surprised it got a video game adaptation
Previously there was no incentive for Fox to release it when all it would do is give Disney's version more publicity. Now that Disney own's it there's no incentive to release it because it would cause confusion between the two versions.
Yeah, but being voiced by Tim Curry is cheating for a villain. It's like being voiced by Tony Jay. Either of them could have read the phone book and given it a sense of cultured menace.
This is follicle discrimination!
it's a bullshit reason. it's not being released, because it's not being released and fuck you, that's why
It will be on Disney+
You forget everything in neverland
A lawsuit by Quaker Oats?
Tim Curry was amazing as Hook
>It will be on Disney+
Source?
What other non-Disney properties will be there?
I would bet any amount of money in the world it will never be on Disney+. Schnookums and meat will be on Disney+ before Peter Pan and the Pirates, and that ain't happening either.
Your mother will be on disney+, but nobody will watch it anyway
I think Disney bought it entirely so that it wouldn't compete with their familiar Peter Pan brand. Notice even the Peter Pan peanut butter uses the Disney style silhouette; they want their version of the character to be the only one in pop culture.
>"Is this all you've got, Peter?"
>"What did you expect? I'm twelve!"
In fact, much more well known Disney-owned shows like 'Eek! The Cat' and 'The Tick' will never be on Disney+. I'd be shocked if 90's Spider-Man makes its way there.
Those folk hoping for Disney to just open up the vaults and throw every old thing they own onto the service are in for a very rude awakening. You'll get modern shit, the Disney classics, a smattering of vintage live action stuff, classic DuckTales, Goof Troop, and Rescue Rangers (basically, older shows with still viable characters or IP) and that is it.
But their version is so mediocre!
isn't it a rights or license issue?
i also remember watching this peter pan 'cartoon' back in the day on BBC.
i liked the wendy from this one more then the wendy from OP's
The Tick got released on DVD in the UK, at least.
It's on DVD in the US. Sort of. It's missing a few episodes and I'm pretty sure a few episodes have scenes missing since they used the modern broadcast edits.
So I guess the UK version includes all the episodes.
I spent so much time searching for a rip of this series, and the only full one I know of is full of VGS ghosts constantly manifesting behind the characters
it definitely does, however since its in PAL format, it plays too fast. Somebody with some good video editing skills could rip the discs and fix that issue, however.
Peter Pan no Bouken is fucking magical, even if you watch the Saban-ized version. The reason why I never warmed up to Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates is the fact that it compares very unfavorably to this Japanese show.
Hang on, did ALL the TV shows play too fast in Europe back in the day?
They did in the UK for sure. I'm not sure if all of Europe adopted the PAL format, but yeah, anything encoded in PAL is going to play roughtly 20% faster than NTSC standard due to the framerate differences.
>Somebody with some good video editing skills could rip the discs and fix that issue, however.
You don't need good video editing skills for something that simple, just good software.
You do realize Europe makes TV shows too right?
Only shows that were originally made for NTSC. On rare occasion, they'd be properly converted to not have that issue. But most people wouldn't even notice a 4% speed difference if they weren't looking for it.
>But most people wouldn't even notice a 4% speed difference if they weren't looking for it.
The sound difference is extremely obvious if it isn't pitch-corrected (which used to be difficult)
>Those folk hoping for Disney to just open up the vaults and throw every old thing they own onto the service are in for a very rude awakening
But wasn't that the point of disney+ ????
It annoyed me that Hook is more of Clamp
No, the point of Disney+ is to make lots of money while promoting their major brands.
Those being Marvel, Star Wars, Disney Princess, Mickey and Friends, Pixar, and Winnie the Pooh. And now Avatar and The Simpsons, presumably.
Some rights problem, too bad as it was well animated by the japs at TMS.
Tim Curry is the best hook.
youtu.be
Tim Curry was really great in this and there were some really dark stories.
The problem is that Disney owns it and they want their version of Peter Pan to be the one that the public remembers.
You do realize that even most Disney cartoons that ARE remembered don't have a DVD release?
For me it aired every weekday morning at 700,m right after James Bond Jr. Mind you, this is the original airing on broadcast tv, not cable.
This.
>You do realize that even most Disney cartoons that ARE remembered don't have a DVD release?
That's only because zoomers aren't into physical media. But they're all on streaming, often in HD.
Honestly, as much as this show had going for it, I tried rewatching and it does nottt hold up. It's super babyish and has zero edge, cleverness, fanservice, or anything else that makes a cartoon fun...
it's just kind of sweet, most of the time looks nice, really creative, and has some excellent concepts. That only goes so far.
That one was awesome
>But they're all on streaming, often in HD.
uh no
It's as good if not better than the Disney version so why would Disney help promote it by releasing it on dvd now that they own it?
Captain Hook and crew were a bad-ass scary bunch in this show.
>The scene where Hook goads Peter into killing him by boasting that he'll die having lived a man while Peter will be trapped forever in his ignorant youth
Chilling.
Pull on the oars!
Freedom is yours!
Strike for the shores of Dover!
Over the sea!
Hearty and free!
Troubles will soon be over!
Here we go!
For we know that we row for home!
Sailing for home!
TMS owns Peter Pan and the Pirates, not Disney.
Again, TMS owns Peter Pan and the Pirates, not Disney.
>>But they're all on streaming, often in HD.
>uh no
I was referring to the more popular ones only user
Fuck off TMSfag, everyone knows Disney owns it.
No, they don't they have no need for 2 Peter Pans hence why TMS got it in the first place.
youtube.com
Holy shit, you're right.
>faces death without flinching
>that motherfucking speech about having lived a fulfilling life instead of just being a snotty brat forever
Jesus fuck he was good
Is that the two parter episode where Peter ages up? I think I never could catch the second part because they aired the episodes out of order.
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
That looks to be the first episode (in two parts) and the second episode.
Now that’s funny.
You watch cartoons for fanservice and edginess? Sounds like you've got some growing up to do of your own there, user.
Peter was such a dick it was unbearable.
>Peter about to fucking impale Hook and teasing him how he deserves to die
>Hook doesn't flinch and starts mocking him
Stone cold, both of them
TMS didn't even animate half of the series
You are full of lies
Two sides of the same coin.
TMS only animated 13 episodes. And it is 100% owned by Disney. Don't know why that user is making shit up.
It was the series finale, actually. The first episode was about some Ice King guy wanting to get back a big-ass ruby Peter stole from him. It had much better animation than the rest of the series.
Thanks for bringing this back to my memories. Apparently this is part of a bigger "container series" called World Masterpiece Theater (世界名作劇場) that reworked many different stories of western literature into animated series.
It seems most of it is available in Japan.
Fox owned this, they produced it together with TMS. Now Disney owns Fox, so they also own 'Peter Pan and the Pirates'
TMS owns it, Disney has no use for it as they already own their own Peter Pan and Griffin.
>At the door of life, by the gate of breath, There are worse things waiting for men than death -Algernon Charles Swinburne - 1837-1909
I don't think I've seen a villain written and portrayed more deeply in a cartoon.
It was canceled after that one scene got them in trouble.
POMF
"Peter, what are we doing to do on the bed?"
>anime *WOWWWW~* SFX plays
Because everyone at Jollywood is gay now and can't withstand the sheer, raw and unrepentant chad manliness in pure form that is Tim curry's voice as Hook...
...that or franchise conflict with the Big Rodent.
I will never forgive them for that cock tease of an episode in which Wendy was going to turn into a fairy. But then that fucking Crocodile showed up and ruined everything.
>cue 'OOOOH YEEEEAAAH' track
I like how every version of Tinkerbell always makes her a giant cunt.
That was cool.
Actually, Saban owned it and Disney bought Saban so Disney inherited it through that acquisition. Fox never owned it.
Does this monologue really work when Peter never WANTS to grow up?
Yes, because to Hook, it just makes his point that much more accurate.
The difference isn't that high, it's more like 4%.
Yeah this was based on a 1911 novel. They were less sentimental about kids back in the day. IIRC it was heavily implied that Peter Pan killed or exiled the lost boys if they got too old.
Before the monologue, Peter was taunting Hook by saying he was and would always be better than him. Hook is saying "I have things you cannot, and never will, have." Doesn't matter if Peter doesn't want to grow up, the idea of Hook having something he can never have is intolerable.
>Actually, Saban owned it and Disney bought Saban so Disney inherited it through that acquisition. Fox never owned it.
No, you are confusing it with 'The Adventures of Peter Pan', and Saban didn't own that either, they just licensed it from Nippon Animation.
>Disney own both this and the animated movie from the 50's
>Owns the Captain America version of Peter Pan through Marvel (yes that is real)
>Probably owns even more versions considering all the other buyouts
>Will still make a remake of the 50's version
>Will still try to buttfuck an orphanage to protect their copyright claims
>It's time to rise and shine!
As adaptations go on and things blur, people forget that Peter is NOT a character you're supposed to like too much as he represents all the good AND bad of being a child.
This one had incredible animation, by the way.
>no moar X-Men fairy tales
Disney didn't want this, s they gave it back to TMS.
Which means technically, its owned by Sega now.
Where the fuck is your source on this, Famicom? You keep saying it, but all the actual evidence is still pointing to Disney still retaining ownership.
Where's the proof?
She pretty much is a giant cunt in the source material. Most fae tend to be.
thats because book tinkerbell was a cunt
the Disney version in the Original movie was also a cunt, she tried to have wendy killed.
it's only later that Disney turned her into cute and innocent
Wikipedia lists them as "current owner" but the trail stops there.
>Peter Pan no Bouken
youtube.com
opening was also nice
youtube.com
english opening was shorter and used different scenes
Disney clearly owns Peter Pan and the Pirates
actually all of Europe used that PAL format
same for Australia/New Zealand
and the Middle East and Africa
and Asia except for Hong Kong, Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea
Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay used it but they didn't actually import PAL masters and they were more NTSC than PAL
Disney wouldn't give anything to anyone, especially if it's something that can compete with a product of theirs.
It only lists TMS as a production company. The "current owner" (which I assume you mean the company listed as "distributor", since "current owner" isn't used on the show's page) is listed as "20th Television", though I assume that's more on the fact that the show hasn't been legally available in the US since the 90s. Even if Fox did retain the show after losing Saban, that still means Disney has in their vault now.
TMS actually just did the animation to the show
Disney actually owns the rights to the show
Peter Pan no Bokuen was the only one I watched when I was a kid. So when I heard people talk about a Peter Pan series I thought they meant that.
TMS owns it.
Nice job dodging the question about your sources, Famicom.
Correct.
I've just watched the whole episode
I've never seen anything that kino peter pan related
fuck you, I just corrected you.
you only assume TMS owns it because Disney doesn't even bother making their asset catalog available for the public to view
That that is 100% wrong, Disney has no use for 2 Peter Pans plus all 65 episodes were spotted on CrunchyRoll's server (can not be accessed as of now but the episodes are on their server under get this "TMS Entertainment").
Buzz off.
Read
It worked because it made Peter want to grow up and fucked up Neverland when he did grow up
"Disney has no use for two Peter Pans" is the flimsiest explanation you could possibly come up with.
>"We're a multi-billion dollar corporation who just made a huge acquisition. Oh no, we happened to also acquire a competing version of one of our popular characters. Let's give it away for free to our competition."
The above seems to be your mindset of what happened. Disney would never do that, they'd be more content to sit on the rights to it indefinitely than let the show get out there and confuse the brand.
>plus all 65 episodes were spotted on CrunchyRoll's server (can not be accessed as of now but the episodes are on their server under get this "TMS Entertainment").
When did this happen and do you actually have evidence that they uploaded the show, never made it publically accessible, and then took it down?
For that matter, if TMS did get the rights away from Disney, where is it? TMS has been very good about making their library legally available for viewing, but this one show is the exception? I call bullshit.
proof?
if they were on Crunchyroll they wouldn't be lost media anymore
>The above seems to be your mindset of what happened. Disney would never do that, they'd be more content to sit on the rights to it indefinitely than let the show get out there and confuse the brand.
This is Eisner we're talking about, he sold Dic for Christ sake.
>When did this happen and do you actually have evidence that they uploaded the show, never made it publically accessible, and then took it down?
Read >TMS has been very good about making their library legally available for viewing, but this one show is the exception?
They don't have Saint Tail, Hamtaro (after Viz's right expired) and a load of pre-2000s anime projects on streaming sites.
It's in their source code, episodes are not available for viewing yet.
Was that the same series that did this version of Wizard of Oz?
I had a toy of the captain hook as a kid
you just helped me remember this user thanks
proof it's in their source code?
Is it possible that Disney isn't even aware this show exists?
the only sign they're aware it exists is that they own the rights to it and they've allowed broadcasts of it outside the USA after 2000
TMS owns it, not Disney as the post 2000 airings in Pal markets say "Distributed by: TMS Entertainment".
The Pal market broadcasts after 2000 came from TMS, not Disney.
proof TMSfag?
The last credits panel for post 2000 broadcasts (especially for non English broadcasts at this time) says "Distributed by: TMS Entertainment".
>Tim Curry probably doesn't have much time left
Make it stop
screenshot?
Here you go.
oh jesus fuck
It's out of my hands!
I'm only a clock!
Please try not to panic, I'm sure you'll be fine
But eventually, everyone runs out of time.
maybe you were right after all
but in all seriousness, I won't be surprised if those rights went to Disney eventually
I am right on this.
TMS owns Peter Pan and the Pirates.
okay maybe I take back the attacks on you
and I was expecting a Photoshopped image with a After Effects/Vegas VHS filter
Thank you.
He assumes it because he's a fucking pathological liar with a psychotic fixation on a Japanese animation studio.
Famicom could say the fucking sky was blue and he'd be lying.
Proof was already given over at
Am i the only one who though that the thumbnail image was a girl and her shadow hanging from a rope?
Best Captain Hook ever.
Change my mind.
Pro-tip: you can't
>that pic
S-s-sauce?
Both series have their own strong points, what I really liked about them both is the lack of green in their Peter Pan design, really helping them setting their version apart from Disney's.
Yes, a single twenty year old VHS screencap that could be for any fucking show that TMS has worked on is irrefutable proof that Disney doesn't own the show right now. Just like the imaginary Crunchyroll listings you dreamed up, because Crunchyroll is famous for streaming western cartoons.
I'll give you credit for not posting one of your fucking retarded collages as proof, or for actually trying to post actual visual evidence at all. Most of the time you just quote yourself and call it proof, which I'm sure will make a compelling legal argument when you're on finally trial for possession of child pornography.
>Because Crunchyroll is famous for streaming western cartoons.
Galaxy High says hi.
crunchyroll.com
>collages
Those came from multiple of people.
>Trial for possession of...
That has never happen.
I was 5 when the show was on tv and thought he was the Quaker Oats guy.
